Great Tasting Low Carb Recipe

The liver is an amazing organ. Tasked with removing toxins from the body, the liver acts as a natural filter. However, with today's poor, overly processed dietary habits and overindulgence, it is easy for your liver to become overwhelmed and "clogged".

Many people are beginning diets that encourage low carb recipes these days. But, what are low carb recipes? What things can and cannot be made into a low carb recipe? Following your diets strict guidelines is important, but using the Internet as a tool will help you. For instance, you may do a search for quick recipes and come up with many low carb options. There are many different diets to choose from that have low carb rules.

But, many recipes may also be able to be changed into low carb by making simple changes. Meat recipes are probably the most oblivious choice including chicken as it is such a healthy option in most cases. But, what about other choices? Cookie recipes may be the most difficult to find, but choices for sweets will be found. What about a special occasion? Yes, you can easily find easy gourmet recipes as well. Make in advance crockpot recipes? Yes, those too will be found with a little devoted looking.

The best option in finding these hard to find recipes would be too look on your low carb diet's website. You can also do a search for the exact thing or just a category using the Internet. Whatever means you choose, you will find many options to low carb recipes out there. Low carb recipes need to be healthy as well as follow the guidelines specified in your diet's plan. So, it is safe to say, that you will need to research what items you may and may not eat when following these diets by looking through the materials you have purchased or visiting the websites sponsored by those diets. Questions to asked and get answered include knowing the difference between good carbs and bad carbs. Dietitians recommend eating complex carbs because these are full of fiber, phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals. Other carbs are ones, usually the ones to avoid are simple carbs which contain lots of sugar! There are more things to ask about your diet as well such as the different phases or just how to live a low carb life.

So what is detoxification (detox)? To put it very simply it's "getting the garbage (toxins) out of your body without putting any more in". Toxins can be heavy metals, pesticides, too much vitamin A or chemical residues from the polluted air we breathe or the junk food we eat, which contains sugar salt, artificial colors and flavors. All these are stored mainly in the fatty tissues of the body and can play havoc with your health if they build up to excess or if you have a sensitivity.

Once you know the information you need to choose which low carb recipes you are allowed or those that you are restricted from, changing your favorite recipes into low carb gets easier. Chicken and other meat recipes will be the easiest to switch maybe with very little effort. In certain diets, you are allowed to eat more vegetables, but are restricted on which ones. So instead of having a baked potato with your dinner, you have a baked sweet potato instead. The sweet potato has less of the "bad carbs" then the sweet potato. Maybe instead of fries at your favorite restaurant, you get a salad. When it comes to making things at home, you need recipes that contain good carbs in the correct amounts for your diet.

A crock pot meal may contain a meat choice and fresh veggies, but leave out the potatoes or noodles. There are many choice you will need to make when looking for low carb recipes, but overall, it will be easy to find ones that will fit your taste buds. The most important things to understand are the rules of your low carb diet or lifestyle. Knowing which carbs you can and cannot eat, is the entire battle! Detox diets are used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body for general health.

To detoxify one must assist the body in its natural cleansing process, or accelerate it. By following a healthy diet thus enabling the body's organs to flush out the toxins more effectively, taking exercise and particularly long saunas to sweat out the toxins then the process is greatly effective.

Detox diets are used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body for general health.

Six Steps…to Financially Surviving a Recession

Originally published at The Cube Monkey: Business Success and Personal Development

In this article, I propose Six Steps…to Financially Surviving a Recession. Some believe that saving for three months is impossible. I think it is not only possible but easier than most people think. I’ve outlined six steps to financially surviving a recession. For some, this will be easy to do. For others, you may need to seriously change your spending habits.

Before I begin, however, you should speak with your financial advisor before taking this or any other financially related advice. Finally, this is a long article but I promise it is well worth the read.

#1: Calculate your total monthly necessary expenses; then calculate your total monthly discretionary expenses.

Your total necessary expenses are those that MUST be paid even if you lose your job. To clarify, your mortgage or rent is a necessary expense. Your gas and electric is a necessary expense. Groceries are a necessary expense. Your minimum credit card payments are a necessary expense. A discretionary expense is any expense you can completely eliminate without a substantial penalty. Cable TV, the pool membership, and meals out are all discretionary expenses.

What about services with cancelation fees? If the fee to cancel is less than the cost to complete the contract, then it is a discretionary expense; meaning you can get rid of it if needed.

After you calculate both the necessary and discretionary expenses, add them together to get your total monthly expenses.

#2: Trim the Fat

You’ll need to cut back and be ruthless about achieving your goal of saving three to six months of expenses! Look at all of your expenses listed from Step #1. What can you cut or trim? If you can cut an expense entirely, all the better. However, most of you will likely trim what’s already there. Here are ways to cut back.

Gas and Electric:

- Turn up the thermostat in the summer a few degrees and turn down the thermostat a few degrees in the winter. Save on heating and air conditioning.

- Turn off lights and appliances when not in use.

- Turn down the heat on the hot water heater (just a little – I’m not advocating cold showers)

Making these small changes can add up to a few bucks a month.

Entertainment:

- Cut back on the number of times you eat out.

- Cut back on entertainment in general.

I’m not saying you can’t have fun…but can you have fun without spending a lot of money? Of course! Instead of going to a movie and dropping $20 for the tickets and another $10 on popcorn, rent a movie and pop some microwave popcorn.

Here’s the savings:

- Going out to the movies: $30 ($10/ticket x 2 people + $10 in refreshments/popcorn)

- Renting a movie: $10 ($5 for the movie + $5 for microwave popcorn).

Total Savings: $20…multiply that times a few weeks and you’re saving some serious money.

Cable:

Do you need cable? Most will say yes. But, do you need all those premium channels? Can you live without them for a few months?

Insurance:

Check with your auto and home insurance agent to see if it is possible to raise your deductible. Many times a higher deductible will reduce your monthly, quarterly, or yearly payments.

Credit Cards:

This is a long shot, but if you have always paid your bills on time and are in “good standing” with your credit card companies, ask them to reduce your interest rate.

Groceries:

Try to make dinners and lunches that are more economical. Casseroles, stews, and Crockpot dishes are great examples of meals that are inexpensive and easy to cook. The cost per serving is very low when compared to other meals.

Coffee:

How many times per week do you go to Starbucks or some other coffee cafĂ©? You don’t need to cut that out entirely, but scale back. If you go every day, go every other day. If you go twice a week, go once a week. Try brewing your coffee at home. That saves money as well.

Look over your expense sheet and see what you can cut and trim.

#3: Calculate your Current Monthly Cash Flow

Where does your cash go on a monthly basis? At the end of the month, how much surplus cash is left over after you subtract your expenses from your income? Is there cash left over or is it all spent? After you complete Step #1, you should have a good idea of your monthly expenses. Subtract that from your monthly income to determine what’s left. That will give you a general estimate of your cashflow. However, I prefer a more precise measure.

I use a software program called Budget Calendar by MiShell. It is an inexpensive budget program ($14.95 with a 30 day free trial) that is light-years ahead of anything I’ve ever tried. This software budgets money based on exactly when you get paid and when bills must be paid. I know exactly how much money I will have on any given day. Here is a screen shot. You won’t be disappointed.

After this analysis, you’ll know if there is a surplus or deficit at the end of each month.

One last note, remember to include your monthly debt payments. When you do, however, only include the minimum payment due each month.

#4: Calculate your Monthly Cash Flow after trimming the fat

Use the same process as defined in Step #3 but now calculate your cash flow based on your new, trimmed, leaner budget. I hope that you now have a surplus of available cash to save. If you don’t, you need to seriously look at your expenses and make some significant changes. You are likely living a $100,000 lifestyle on a $50,000 salary.

#5: Start saving

This is it. Start saving! “But what about my mound of credit card debt? Shouldn’t I pay that off before saving?”. No, let me explain why.

Let’s assume that you have a lot of debt and no savings. And to clarify, by debt I mean all debt not counting your mortgage such as credit cards. Assuming that your interest rates on these debts are within a normal range of 0% to 15%, I advise that you pay the minimum amount due on each. Save the surplus cash instead of paying down your credit cards. Here’s why.

Remember that when you calculated your cash flow, I said that you should only include your minimum payments as part of your monthly expenses. Your three to six months of savings includes these minimum payments. Also remember that your three to six months of savings is to keep you afloat while you find a new job. This means you need to save what is a necessary minimum. A minimum payment of $150 on a credit card is the necessary minimum to get you by. If you take your monthly surplus and pay down a credit card, that’s wonderful. But if you lose your job, you’re in trouble. It is better to have six months of savings with debt than it is to have less debt but the inability to pay your mortgage.

Once you save three to six months of expenses, then proceed to pay down your debt. Then you know with complete confidence and with great relief that if you lose your job in a recession, you are capable of paying all of your minimally necessary expenses.

#6: Stay focused, stay determined, and update your budget

You have a plan…now follow it! Keep your budget with you at all times. Before you spend money on something, look at the budget. By constantly referencing your budget, you will be reminded of your goal.

Make sure the budget is a living document. Keep it updated. If you spend less on groceries one week, note it in the budget and see how much additional savings you have. If you need to fix the breaks on your car, note it in the budget as an unexpected expense and adjust your savings accordingly.

If you follow these six steps, you can save three to six months of expenses. For some ths will be easy. For others, you may need to make some lifestyle decisions. The choice is yours. But for piece of mind sake, it is better to cut back now than not have enough money should the unfortunate happen.

I know this was a long article but I hope you find it valuable.

Above all, stay positive. Remember, you’re preparing just in case.

Interior Design Ideas for Fall Decorating

We put away our pool accessories and all related items we so used and needed for the summer and search out our flannel sheets, crockpots and winter sweaters to clean for the months ahead.

Making the transition from summer to fall can be quite easy when you prepare in advance. Just as you store away your summertime luxuries for a cold winter season you can store away some fall decor items to bring out on a whim. Make a list of items that you may need to cozy up your rooms. The key is to purchase items that will make the most contribution without breaking the bank. Warm comforter sets, seasonal dinnerware, earthenware, table lenins and baskets. Think essentials that you will use everyday. New throw pillows for the sofa and chairs in nice earth tones. Pottery to hold this seasons bounty of fruits and vegetables. Baskets for kindling and pinecones. Candles and wool throws. All of these items can easily be stored when spring rolls around. By nature we need these comforts and they truely make a difference in how we feel in our rooms during the cold blustery beautiful season of fall.

An instant make-over is to purchase a sofa cover in a soft color for fall. This will change the entire ambience of your space. You may wish to purchase a set of new drapes or valances just for the fall/winter months that can be easily removed for spring/summer.

Make a list. Bring out what you have had stored and spruce up your interiors for this glorious season. You will surely find that the transition is much smoother and you will actually look forward to the change.

Is Slow Cooking Really That Great?

I was walking through the aisles of the grocery store a couple of days ago, and I noticed the increase in prepackaged slow cooker meals. I already know the rewards of using a slow cooker because I've been using mine for years, so it came as no surprise to me when others started talking about the advantages of cooking with a crock pot but why did it take the rest of the country so long to find out? But even with this increase in popularity, I've recently been asked by a few "newbies" "Is slow cooking really that great?"
That question would be easy to answer even if all you've ever done is make chicken stew with your slow cooker. It's just too easy and the food tastes exceptional when cooked slowly and evenly in a crock pot.
Nowdays families are usually too busy to sit down and eat, especially eating together as a family. There's where the slow cooker makes a difference. I have many slow cooker recipes, and can find pretty much everything to cook that my kids will like to eat.
I use my crock pot year round, and love its convenience during the warm weather months when I can fix the beginnings of the meal in the morning, put it all in the pot, and then clean up everything when I'm done. The crock pot takes very little time to clean up itself, so there is yet another reason why slow cooking is so great.
If you are working away from home, the slow cooker can be busy fixing your meal for you, and when you walk through the door at the end of another grueling day at work, your dinner will be waiting for you. Most of the time, all you will need to do, is throw together a side dish or salad, add some bread, set the table, and begin} to eat. Simple, simple, simple; and very pleasant to come home to.
Here is a favorite slow cooker recipe that you can try with your family. I'm sure you'll all love it.
Country-Style Crock Pot Chicken
6 carrots, sliced
6 celery stalks, sliced
8 chicken pieces
1 can (10-3/4 oz) cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1/3 c or chicken broth
2 tsp cornstarch
Slice vegetables place in crock pot. Place chicken on vegetables. Spread undiluted soup over chicken. Sprinkle dry onion soup mix. Do not add any water. Cook on High 4 hours, or until chicken is done. Stir often. 10 minutes before serving, mix broth and cornstarch. Pour over chicken, stir well. Serves 4.

Different Types of Crockery Cookware and Tableware

Crockery can be used to describe many different types of dinnerware, serving ware and cookware. Crockery tends to be very simple in design without a lot of embellishment or decoration. It is only made of natural materials such as clay. These natural materials make it very durable. This durability makes it perfect for everyday use and the simple design makes it easy to incorporate with other serving pieces.

Some or the varied types of crockery serving ware and dinnerware include terra cotta, raku, Victorian majolica, tin-glazed pottery, faience, delftware and creamware. Crockery is less expensive them stoneware but still very durable and it can be found for any type of dinnerware and of a variety of serving pieces.

It takes a lot of force to break crockery as it is meant to be used a lot and typically crockery is used for every day dining. Crockery is dishwasher safe making it very easy to clean. Some of the finer pieces of crockery are made of porcelain and fine china and these pieces may have some decoration and embellishment.

One type of crockery called creamware was very popular in England as a famous producer was Wedgewood. Wedgewood improved the making of creamware so that he could produce several a different types of colored creamware. Wedgewood developed a whitish blue creamware that he called pearl ware. The famous rulers Catherine the Great and Queen Victoria all used creamware form Wedgewood.

Another more decorative type of crockery is called delftware. This was first produced in the Netherlands and is characterized by blue decorations on a white background. The blue is due to decoration with metal oxides. Other types of delftware also called faience have been made throughout Europe and the styles vary slightly depending on where you are.

Crockery pieces include condiment bowls, serving platters, gravy bowls, plates and much more. You can find crockery at any kitchen or tableware store as it is widely produced. You can even find some of the more famous pieces of crockery form historical producers like Wedgwood though these will be much more expensive. Creating crockery was an art form in its day and the pieces from crockery's inception are considered works of art.

A type of c rockery cookware includes a crockery cooker or crock pot. Crockery cookers are used for certain types of foods and meats that do not cook well in water. A crockery cooker allows you to properly cook the meat at low temperatures to get the full potential of those foods. A revival of slow cooked foods became popular a few years ago and there are many excellent slow cooked recipes available.

A crockery cooker is excellent for those that are not home to create dinner as you can make a great recipe with just five ingredients. You simply place everything into the crockery cooker in the morning, turn it on and when you come home you have dinner ready and waiting for you. A basic but excellent crockery cooker that comes with fantastic reviews is the Rival 3040VC 4 Quart Crockpot.

A crockery cooker with a removable lining makes cleaning very easy. It is important when using a crockery cooker that the internal temperature of the meat or any other food you use reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit as this mean that the food is safe.

What Moms Need

Moms need to feel appreciated for all of their hard work and dedication to their kids. It is probably the most difficult job on the planet and offers the least amount of encouragement and appreciation. A mom can spend an entire day devoted to her kids and their needs and at the end of the day never receive a single “thank you mom.” If this job were in the business world, most moms would quit their job within the first couple of months if not the first few weeks. Fortunately they can’t and most often, they don’t.

Surprisingly, the origin of Mother’s Day was not intended to honor and appreciate moms, but was adopted from the British after the civil war as a way for women to unite against war and promote it as a national day of peace. Mother’s Day was never nationally recognized until President Woodrow Wilson declared it as a national holiday. From that point on, commercialization of Mother’s Day as we now know it began to take its shape and it is now a day of recognition for moms.

It is indeed surprising that the original intention of Mother’s Day had nothing to do with encouraging and appreciating moms, because it’s very obvious that they need support. Over the last few decades as divorce has sadly become a socially acceptable alternative to unhappy marriages, the number of single mothers in the world is increasing. Moms are forced to play the role of both the mother and the father and their souls and spirits, hopes and dreams are dwindling. There are many organizations and resources now available to moms that provide them with support, advice, wisdom, answers to questions, hints, tips and tricks that all revolve around how to be a better mother.

A relatively new organization called Spotlight Mothers has been created in the form of a website www.spotlightmothers.com, where their primary purpose is to provide recognition and appreciation for the mothers of the United States. At this point in time they recognize three moms each week through a ‘Mother of the Week’, ‘Recipe of the Week’ and ‘Life Tip of the Week’. Not only are they providing free resources for moms, they are making it a point to appreciate and encourage the moms that have submitted their recipes, wisdom and advice. You will be able to find crockpot recipes, drink recipes, chili recipes, chocolate and dessert recipes, and even something as simple as a really good chocolate chip cookie recipe. Their Life Tips can range from early pregnancy symptoms to coping with letting your kids go; picking out baby girl names or baby boy names; shopping for mother of the bride dresses and so much more.

On top of all of that, they also have a ‘Mother of the Week’ award. Each and every week they feature a different mom by making her the center of attention on the site and sending her a gift and a certificate in the mail. You can nominate your own mom to be ‘Mother of the Week’ so that she will feel special and know that you, as her son, daughter or good friend, really do appreciate everything that she has done and will continue to do in the future.

Moms are in desperate need of appreciation. It’s about time we start taking their needs seriously and make every day, Mother’s Day.

Jonathan Regele created Spotlight Mothers as a mechanism for moms to feel appreciated as well as raise awareness among others of the support and encouragement mothers truly need and desire. http://www.spotlightmothers.com

It is recommended that you add spices while the last hour of cooking to help retain their flavors, and when you are revamping a non-crockpot recipe for use in the crockpot, adjust the liquid so you only use half as much, because liquids will not boil in the crockpot. What You Need to Know About the Versatile Chicken

The chicken has been domesticated since at least 1400 BC, providing eggs and meat to the Chinese. The Polynesians introduced the bird to Chile in the 1300s, spreading the chicken to a completely new continent. Since then, the chicken has gone on to world domination as a food source. Easy to raise, they give us nutritious protein, and they are very versatile.

Almost every culture around the world has at least a few recipes for chicken. Mexico, France, Italy, and China... the list is endless. Chicken is low in cholesterol, mild, and relative cheap. The meat can be used in many different ways to create healthy, delicious meals.

What Kinds of Chicken is Available These Days?

At the grocery store, you will find whole chickens, fryers that are conveniently cut into pieces and packages of one part, like all thighs, all wings, or all breasts. Small tubs of gizzards or livers are also available if you prefer. You can buy chicken with or without the bones. With all these options at the store, it is easy to plan many meals around chicken.

Whole chickens are less expensive than a package of all breasts. The less processing the meat packers do, the more savings you get. If you do not feel comfortable or do not have time to cut up a chicken yourself, you can always opt for one that has been cut up or deboned for you.

What Can You Do With the Different Chicken Types?

Whole chickens can be roasted, and used for soup afterwards. Cut up chicken can be fried, fricasseed, baked, or stewed. Boneless chicken can be added to one-pot meals, chicken pot pie, soups, pasta, sautés, stir-fries and almost anything else you can imagine. Crockpot chicken recipes are very popular, and can be cooked while you are away.

Use chicken in Italian dishes like chicken linguine, French dishes like chicken and shallots, or Indian recipes like chicken tandoori. Asian recipes like peanut chicken, orange peel chicken and others add some zing to what may otherwise be an ordinary day. Make pollo relleno or chicken a la Tex Mex for a little spice. Each ethnic region also has many chicken soup varieties to try too.

Chicken also gives you the choice of white or dark meat. Each one has a different texture, and they each work well in different meals. Dark meat holds up better to long cooking times than white meat. It also really takes in the flavors of a marinade or sauce. White meat is better when you want to use it whole or put it on the grill.

So, all in all, we owe a lot to the chicken. It offers us meat that is low in fat and cholesterol. It is easily digested even by the weakest stomach. It can be added to almost any dish with tasty results. Chicken is more versatile than most other foods. When we are sick, chicken soup has even been proven to be beneficial. The simple chicken has elevated our food to an exalted place.

Chicken is a great choice for cooking in parchment. Sliced up it will cook quickly. For more ideas for boneless chicken, check out http://www.BonelessChickenRecipe.com. There are lots of recipes and articles to learn more about this tasty, convenient ingredient your family will enjoy every time. A great selectionof chicken casserole recipes to chose from.

Summer Crockpot White Chicken Chili

Crockpot cooking is such a salutary way to prepare meals. Between the created steam, the direct heat from the pot and the distance of the cooking time, the risk of bacteria is decreased. an additional one salutary point is that when ingredients are added directly to the crockpot rather than being precooked, limited or no butter or oil will be used. Also, if you are naturally adding ingredients rather than precooking anything, you are going to use very little, if any, oil or butter. Skillets need the use of fat to avoid meat and vegetables sticking, whereas the liquid added to crockpot recipes prevents sticking to the sides and bottom of the crockpot dish.

A slow cooker is exquisite for cooking meals when you will be gone for part or most of the day. The best foods are those that cook well when simmering at low temperatures for a long time, such as beans, roasts, and chicken. Less expensive and leaner cuts of meat are particularly good when prepared in a crockpot, because the slow cooking and moisture make them tender and minimize shrinking. Spaghetti sauce, soup, stew, and chili are examples of foods with high moisture contents that turn out perfectly when prepared in a crockpot. As with crockpot white chicken chili, small pieces are needed to be sure the food cooks all the way. Meat should always be defrosted before being put into the crockpot.

Crockpot

Chicken And Crockpot Chili

Do you often attend potluck suppers or buffets? Life is so much easier with a crockpot, a family kindly appliance for more than thirty years. Dips and sauces can be warmed and carried along, or make up some tasty cocktail-sized meatballs for a special treat. Take the crockpot with you to keep them warm, or carry them in the dish.

One of the nicest features of some of the newer crockpots is the Warm setting. When the meal is done, it automatically clicks over to keep things ready to eat. This is a astounding feature when everybody in the house has a dissimilar schedule and you want to keep the meal ready to serve.

Crockpot recipes are often more flavorful and tender than recipes cooked by other methods. A crockpot cooks a meal in its own juices, maximizing flavor. Dream development beef so tender that it falls apart at the touch of a fork. This is the effect of slow cooking in the crockpot and is particularly good when you want to make shredded beef for burritos, tostadas, or chimichangas. If you think you will be cooking quite a few roasts in your crockpot, get one that is oval shaped, exquisite for cooking a whole chicken or large cut of beef.

At times you will need to hold some foods back until the cooking is near an end, like zucchini, tomatoes, and mushrooms. They are so tender that they just need a short time to cook, so add them along with the spices about an hour before the rest of the meal will be cooked. That trick will help hold the shape of the vegetables and say the flavor of the spices, giving the right touch to a exquisite meal.

Mexican Crockpot Recipes

I love Mexican food and love using my crockpot, so combining the two makes exquisite sense.  Here's a list of some Mexican Crockpot Recipes.

Crockpot Enchiladas

Crockpot

A remarkable dish my whole house loved!

Ingredients:

2 cans shredded chicken breasts
1 cup salsa
1 can enchilada sauce
24 oz can diced green chiles
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can cream of chicken soup
14 oz can sliced black olives
2 thinly sliced green onions
10 corn and flour tortillas

Spray crock pot with cooking spray. Mix chicken, salsa, enchilada sauce, green chilis, and soup in a bowl. Cut corn and flour tortillas into 1 inch pieces, mix pieces together. Place a layer of sauce compound on the lowest of the crockpot. Place a layer of tortillas, then a layer of cheese. Repeat until all the sauce compound has been used. Top with cheese, olives, and green onions. Cover and cook on low 6 hours. If desired, serve with sour cream, salsa, guacamole, and tortilla chips.

Chicken Tortilla Soup
Easily one of my beloved recipes - a remarkable "throw it in and let it cook" soup. See the notes below for and extra flavorful twist.

Ingredients:

1 ½ pounds shredded cooked chicken
1 drained 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
1 - 10 oz can enchilada sauce
2 medium chopped onions
14 oz can chopped green chiles
2 cloves minced garlic
2 cups water
1 - 14 ½ oz can chicken broth
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
½ tsp black pepper
1 large bay leaf
1 tbsp cilantro
1 ½ tsp southwest seasoning mix
1 - 10 oz pkg frozen corn

Spray slow cooker with cooking spray. Mix all ingredients in crockpot. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours. If desired, serve with sour cream and baked tortilla strips. For baked tortilla strips, preheat oven to 400*. Lightly brush both sides of tortillas with vegetable oil, cut into strips. Spread on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes.

Notes: For extra flavor, I make this in two steps. First, I put 1-1 ½ pounds of boneless skinless chicken breasts in a crockpot with 1 ½ cups water (or 1 can chicken broth) and Mexican seasonings. (A box of taco or fajita seasoning or southwest seasoning mix works well.) Cover and cook on high 3-4 hours. Take off chicken and shred for soup. Often, I will make 2-3 pounds of chicken to make soup along with shredded chicken tacos or fajitas.

Crockpot Taco Appetizer
Although I serve with chips, this could be a main meal by using hard or soft shelled tacos instead!

Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
½ cup water
1 envelope taco seasoning
18 ounce can tomato sauce
1 undrained 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup sour cream
3 chopped green onions
1 cup sliced black olives
1 bag tortilla chips

Spray crock pot with cooking spray. In a skillet, brown meat over a medium flame. Drain and add to crockpot. Add water, taco seasoning, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes. Cover and cook on low 6 hours. Serve with toppings such as cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions, black olives, and other desired toppings.

Notes: As mentioned, this could absolutely be a main meal by serving with hard or soft shelled tacos rather than tortilla chips.

This recipe has been a popular at many covered dish events.  It is so uncomplicated to prepare and it will serve 24 hungry diners.

Ingredients

Crockpot

3/4 cup celery
1 cup barbeque sauce
1 can (261/2 ounces) sloppy Joe sauce
24 hamburger buns

* Drain.
* transfer beef compound to 31/2 to 6 quart crockpot.
* To beef mixture, add chopped celery, barbecue sauce, and sloppy joe sauce. Mix thoroughly.
* Cover and cook on low heat setting for 7 to 9 hours (or cook on high heat setting for 3 to 4 hours) or until vegetables are tender.

Quick Tips

The best way to Prevent Unwanted Accidents In Preparing Your Food

Here are just a few pointers to refresh and reinforce your common sense as you might be preparing your current meal or storing it for future use.
- Food safety really starts together with your excursion to the supermarket. Pick up the packaged or canned foods. Do the cans have dents? Do not obtain them; positive things. Is the jar cracked? Leave it; obviously. Does the lid appear loose or bulging? Pick up another; there're plenty. Search for any expiration dates on the labels -they are there for a reason. In no way acquire outdated food. Check the ""use by"" or ""sell by"" date on dairy merchandise and pick the ones that can remain fresh the longest.
- Right after grocery shopping, put food into the refrigerator or freezer right away. Make certain to set the refrigerator temperature is set to 40 deg F and also the freezer is set to 0 F. Refrigerate or freeze perishables, prepared foods, and leftovers inside two hours. Raw meat, poultry, and seafood ought to be placed in containers to prevent their juices from dripping on other foods. Raw juices could possibly harbor harmful bacteria. Eggs constantly go within the refrigerator.
- Usually cook food thoroughly until it can be done. Red meat need to turn brown inside. Chicken, when poked with a fork, need to have clear juices. When you add dairy products, make sure your temperature is on low so they will not curdle. Thickeners like cornstarch can be added during the last hour of cooking. Crock Pot Macaroni And Cheese Makes an Easy Side Dish

One of the most beloved childhood foods is macaroni and cheese. Most of us can remember mom serving up a box of Kraft macaroni and cheese along with a hotdog or burger.
Since its beginnings in 1937, Kraft's version has been a mainstay in the pre-packaged foods section of the grocery store. Why not, it's easy and tastes good and kids love it. However, there is another easy and tasty way to go to get some delicious macaroni and cheese prepared for your family.
The earliest known mention of macaroni and cheese was in Italy, which makes sense given that macaroni is pasta after all. In the United States, history reports that one of the Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson, brought back the classic recipe from Italy, along with a pasta machine.
Naturally, many folks love the other classic macaroni and cheese that's baked in the oven. Of course that's a great dish, but creating it requires heating the oven. Using your slow cooker or crockpot saves energy and time. So you'll just need a good macaroni and cheese crock pot recipe. Slow cookers have been on the market for quite awhile now, but unfortunately not everyone has yet to get on board with the simplicity of preparing all the ingredients, putting them in the pot and leaving the house for the day. Hopefully, this easy recipe will get you going if you haven't yet started enjoying slowcooking.
