5 Quick and Easy Ways to Cook With Your Crockpot

With the help of a crockpot, you can put in minimal effort to create a thrifty and delicious meal for the whole family. The best crockpot recipes are hardly recipes at all; simply throw in as little as two ingredients and let them cook away while you are at work or attending to other responsibilities. These five quick and easy ideas are the most popular crockpot entrees. With as few as two-or-three ingredients, these ideas are economical but the slow-cooked meals will still taste impressive.

Three Ingredient Crockpot Soup

Some of the best crockpot recipes only have three ingredients! Soups are a great example of three ingredient crockpot recipes. Why buy canned tomato soup when you can make your own in the crockpot? Simply take a pound or two of fresh chopped tomatoes, 1 chopped onion and combine with a pint of chicken or vegetable stock. Simmer for 2-3 hours on low heat. Then puree with a hand blender or blend in batches. You can leave out the onion and/or add fresh chopped basil while cooking. If you like a creamy tomato soup, simply stir in some milk before serving. For more three ingredient crockpot recipes, give French Onion soup a try.

Whole Crockpot Chicken

Slow-cooking chicken in the crockpot with most crockpot chicken recipes has the added benefit of creating delicious, homemade chicken broth. Anyone who makes broth will tell you that store-bought broth just cannot compare to homemade. You can use the chicken for a number of crockpot chicken recipes, while freezing the broth in 1 cup batches for future use. To cook chicken and make broth, Cut a 3 ½ lb. chicken into pieces (including giblets) and cover with water in crockpot (about 4-5 cups). Add celery, garlic, onion, carrot, and fresh parsley. Season with salt and pepper and cook on low overnight or for 10-12 hours. Skim fat off the top of the broth, remove chicken and separate broth into 1 cup batches.

Crockpot Pulled Pork

Pulled pork is a classic dish for picnics and family dinners. With the help of the crockpot, you can make easily make a large amount of meat to serve on burger buns or rolls. For the easiest pulled pork crockpot recipe, simply combine two cups of your favorite BBQ sauce and 4 pounds of pork butt in your crockpot. Make sure meat is coated on all sides, cover and cook on high for 5 ½ hours.

Crockpot White Chicken Chili

White chili, made with chicken instead of beef, is a delicious, healthy and economical dish to make in the crockpot. For the cheapest crockpot chili, use dry beans as they are perfectly suited to slow-simmering in the crockpot. Cover a pound of northern beans and chopped onion with chicken broth and simmer in the crockpot for 3 hours on low heat. Once soft, add chicken, chopped vegetables and herbs and simmer for another hour.

Heart Crockpot Beef Stew

Heart crockpot beef stew is another easy way to feed the family with minimal effort and great taste. Simply cover a pound of stew beef and chopped vegetables (carrot, onion and potato) with beef broth (water and beef bouillon cubes) and cook on low for 6-8 hours. You can also add garlic and/or herbs such as bay leaves, thyme, or rosemary. Experiment with what works best for your favorite hearty crockpot beef stew.

Basic Slow Cooker Tips and Delectable Roast Beef Recipes

Slow cookers or crock pots are countertop electrical cooking appliances that maintain a low temperature for several hours. This enables cooking stew or pot roast without the need to check on it from time to time.

Amateur cooks will find it very easy to handle and maintain. All you need to do is to fill it up, and then turn it on. After several hours, dinner can be served. However, when using the slow cooker, there are some things you need to consider. It is best to get one that has a removable liner, making it very easy to clean. If you already have one with a non-removable liner, you can just use a cooking bag; then, use cooking spray on the inner liner.

Make sure you only fill your slow cooker ½ up to 2/3 full. The food will not be cooked properly if filled to the brim. However, if the liquid and food level is a bit lower, it will cook quickly.

You will find that the food along the bottom part of the slow cooker are moister and become cooked faster. This is because they are continuously immersed inside the simmering liquid. Since fats have a tendency to melt and cook easily when heated for a long time, resulting to an unpleasant texture, it is best to trim the excess fat formed and remove the skin from poultry.

During the last 30 minutes of cooking time, you can remove the lid and cook it on high to thicken the juices and add more flavors. It is best to cook on High during the 1st hour of cooking so that the temperature would easily reach 140 degrees, ensuring food safety. When you are almost done with your cooking, you can turn the dial to Low.

Do not place frozen foods inside your slow cooker. It should be defrosted first before cooking it. This way the temperature would easily reach 140 degrees. It also protects the appliance from being damaged.

Use cheaper cuts of meat because this requires about 8 hours of low cooking. Aside from being able to save money, they have less fat, moist and they result to more tender meats.

Ground meat should be cooked inside a skillet prior to cooking it in the slow cooker. If you will be cooking seafood in a slow cooker, this should be added in the last hour of cooking; otherwise, it will become overcooked and it will showcase a rubbery texture. Take note, 1 hour on high setting is actually equal to 2 hours on low setting.

Only use small amounts of Tabasco sauce and cayenne pepper because they become bitter when they are cooked for a long time. It is best to add them during the end of your cooking time.

Make sure you only add tender vegetables such as mushrooms, tomatoes and zucchini on the last 45 mins. of cooking time. This way, you will not overcook them.

Dairy products, on the other hand, must be added only during the last 30 minutes of cooking time.

Prior to storage, take out cooked food from the slow cooker or liner. Since the slow cooker's liner is composed of thick material, cooked food will not be able to cool down quickly so as to prevent the growth of bacteria.

Only stir in spices during the last hour of cooking time. If you cook this for a long time, it will lose its flavor.

Carefully follow the layering instructions. Since vegetables are not cooked as easily as meat, you need to place them in the bottom of your slow cooker.

If you are using low temperature, do not lift the lid when you stir. This is because the heat will escape and extend the cooking time to 30 minutes more. You can check the cooking progress by spinning the cover so that the condensation would fall off, giving you a chance to look inside your slow cooker.

Here are some of the best Roast Beef Recipes you can cook with your slow cooker:

Roast Beef a la Mushroom Soup

Ingredients are 1 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup, small to medium shoulder or chuck of beef roast, 1 can of French Onion Soup, a dash of pepper and ½ can of water (for cleaning the soup can).

Procedure:

Place the first 3 ingredients inside your slow cooker. Mix the ingredients until thoroughly blended. Sprinkle a dash of pepper. Put the settings on Low and allow cooking for the entire night. The next day, remove the meat and prepare your gravy. If your gravy seems too thin, add about 1 to 2 tsp. of cornstarch with ¼ cups of cold water. Set the cooker on high. Stir in the mixture to thicken and serve.

Roast Beef with Gravy

Ingredients are olive oil, 3 to 3 ½ pounds Boneless Rump Roast, 8 garlic slivers, salt and pepper. You will also need a meat thermometer. For the gravy, you will need some beef stock or red wine and corn starch.

Procedure:

One hour prior to cooking remove the roast from the refrigerator at put it in room temperature.

Using a sharp knife, you need to cut about eight small incisions around your roast. You will place one sliver of garlic on each incision. Place one tablespoon of olive oil around your roast and then sprinkle it with salt and pepper. Put your roast on the oven rack with the fatty side up and a drip pan over a rack under the roasting rack. This way, you will not be required to turn the roast.

Brown your roast at 375oF for 30 minutes. Then, put it on 225oF. It would still 2 to 3 hours to cook but if it starts to drip and is already brown externally, use your meat thermometer to check its temperature. After this, pull your roast from the oven once the temperature reaches 135 to 140oF. Place it on an aluminum foil for about 15 minutes and carve to serve.

For the gravy:

Take out the dripping pan from the oven. Place it on the stove top while it is on medium heat. Collect the drippings, add water, beef stock or red wine. This will loosen the drippings off the pan. Then, dissolve one tablespon of cornstarch with water and add this on the drip pan. Stir it quickly as the gravy thickens. You can also add some butter, salt and pepper. Aside from this, you can also add some fresh thyme.

Crock Pot - Pigs in a Blanket Cabbage Rolls Recipe

When it comes to crock pot cooking (using a slow cooker), I enjoy using mine all year long. One of the recipes I enjoy making in it are Cabbage Rolls, which are also known as Pigs In A Blanket.

This recipe does take some preparation time, but is well worth your efforts.

To Prepare Cabbage: Fill a large stock pot with water and bring to a rapid boil. Take the core out of each head of cabbage. Place head into boiling water, cover and cook for 5 minutes, remove from water immediately. With one head, start taking the leaves off, being careful not to tear them. They should be pliable, if not, place back into the water for an additional minute or two.

Cabbage Rolls

2 large heads cabbage

2 to 3 lbs. lean ground beef

1 large onion, chopped

6 cups cooked rice

1 hot pepper, finely diced

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon salt

1 can tomato soup

1/2 can warm water

Fry the lean ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat until it's not longer pink; drain grease. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ground beef mixture with cooked rice, diced hot pepper, paprika and salt, set aside.

On a clean surface, such as a cutting board, place 2 to 3 tablespoons of meat mixture onto the center of the cabbage leaf. Overlap the sides of the leaf and roll. Repeat until your meat mixture is completely used up.

Place rolls into your slow cooker (crock pot) and pour the can of tomato soup over top along with a 1/2 can of warm water. Turn the dial to high heat, cover and slow cook them for 4 hours or until done.

If desired, you can freeze the left-overs for up to 6 months in your freezer as this recipe will make approximately 25 to 35 cabbage rolls.

Crockpot Dessert Ideas

Slow cookers are good for making desserts as well as entrees, side dishes and appetizers. You can make cakes, fruit-based desserts, and even dipping sauces in the crockpot. If you are going to serve a hot dessert or dipping sauce, you can simply uncover the slow cooker and leave it plugged in so the sauce stays warm.

The Best Caramel Dip

To make a caramel dip, which is great with bread pudding, pound cake, apple wedges, or ice cream, you need to combine two thirds of a cup of whipping cream with a fourteen ounce bag of caramels in the crockpot.

Cover and cook on low for half an hour or until the caramel has melted. Stir in a couple of teaspoons of rum or half a teaspoon of rum extract, as well as half a cup of miniature marshmallows and cover the slow cooker again. Cook the mixture for half an hour more.

How To Make Spiced Fruit

You will need four pounds of canned fruit to make this one and you can choose from pear slices, peach slices, pineapple tidbits, mixed fruit, maraschino cherries and more. If the fruit is in syrup, drain it, but if it is in natural juice, you can keep the juice. Add the fruit to your slow cooker, along with a teaspoon of ground nutmeg, a tablespoon of cornstarch, a teaspoon and a half of ground cinnamon, four tablespoons of butter and half a cup of brown sugar. Add some fruit juice if none of your canned fruit is in natural juice.

Cook on high for three hours or on low for five hours, and then serve this dessert with sour cream or heavy cream. You can also serve it as a breakfast side dish and this recipe makes enough to serve eight people.

Cherry Cobbler Recipe

This tasty recipe is very easy and serves six people. Use a three and a half quart crockpot. If your slow cooker is bigger, you can use a lightly buttered souffle dish inside the larger slow cooker instead.

What You Need:

16 oz cherry pie filling
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 egg
3 tablespoons evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 sweet muffin mix or cake mix for 1 layer cake

How To Make It:

Put the pie filling in a greased crockpot and cook it on high for half an hour. Stir together the nuts, egg, milk, cinnamon and muffin mix or cake mix, then spoon it on top of the hot pie filling. Cover the crockpot and cook for two to three hours on low.

Crockpot Pecan Brownie Recipe

Another great idea is slow cooker pecan brownies. To make these, add quarter of a cup of melted butter to a two pound coffee can, then swirl it all over the sides and base. Sprinkle half a cup of chopped pecans on top.

Make up a family size package of brownie mix with the ingredients called for on the package and add another half a cup of chopped pecans to it. Pour this batter into the coffee can and put it in a crockpot.

Use eight paper towels to cover the top of the can and cover the crockpot. Cook for three hours on high without removing the lid until an hour has passed. Let the coffee can stand for five minutes, then carefully unmold the brownie mixture. Serve hot.

Some people say that crockpot desserts are among the best crockpot recipes because they are so easy and they mean you can concentrate on the entree, knowing the dessert will slowly cook itself. There are also a lot of savory easy crockpot recipes that you can make.

Crockpot Recipes For Your Low-Glycemic Diet - Hearty, Healthy Meals

About the second week into a low-glycemic diet, you may find yourself looking for something other than low-fat cheese, a handful of nuts, and celery sticks, grilled chicken breasts, and steamed broccoli. You may start missing your crockpot and all those wonderful, hearty meals you love to come home to; not to mention the savory aromas of a slow cooked meal simmering away all day.

But this dilemma has a solution. You still can enjoy many delicious meals cooked in your crockpot, even if you are on a low glycemic diet. No need to break this year's resolution. Here are a few simple recipes that I've tried out on my family with great results, and with my diet intact!

Asian Cuisine Inspired Beef and Snow Peas

You'll need:  2 1/2 pounds round steak;  1 cup soy sauce;  2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger;  2 cloves garlic, grated or minced;  2 tablespoons cooking oil;  2 cups snow peas

Cut a round steak into 4 equal pieces. Place the steak in your crockpot. In a separate bowl, whisk together next 4 ingredients and pour this mixture over the meat. Cover the crockpot and cook on Low for about 6 hours or until the meat is nice and tender. In last 15 minutes of cooking, mix in the snow peas. Serve over cooked rice.

Split Pea Soup with Ham

You'll need:  1 pound bag split peas;  2 pounds cooked ham, diced;  3 cloves garlic, minced or grated;  1 medium yellow onion, diced;  3 ribs celery, diced;  1/8 teaspoon black pepper;  7 cups fresh cold water;  5 chicken bouillon cubes

Put all ingredients into your crockpot. Turn your crockpot on Low and cook for 6 to 7 hours. Lift the lid briefly through the cooking time several times and give a quick stir so the peas don't just stay on the bottom of the crockpot.

Triple Bean and Beef Chili

You'll need:  2 pounds lean ground beef;  2 medium yellow onions, diced;  1 green bell pepper, diced;  2 ribs celery, diced;  3 cloves garlic, minced;  2 (16 ounce) cans diced tomatoes;  2 (16 ounce) cans garbanzo beans;  1 (16 ounce) can butter beans;  1 (16 ounce) can black beans;  1 (15 ounce) can chicken broth;  3 teaspoons chili powder;  1/2 teaspoon ground cumin;  1 teaspoon black pepper;  1 teaspoon salt

Brown ground beef, and drain any excess fat. Put all the ingredients into your crockpot and stir to combine. Cover the crockpot and let cook on Low for about 6 hours. I serve this in big bowls with a dollop of low fat yogurt and a sprinkle of chives. You can garnish with whatever your diet allows!

When you are cooking dinner in your crockpot, you are most likely cooking for the whole family, right? Will the whole family like these "diet" crockpot meals? The fact is, my family doesn't even know these meals are part of a diet! No one is disappointed and my diet stays on track.

Five Easy Crockpot Recipes

I am a huge fan of crockpots. In fact, I just bought a second crockpot a few weeks ago. My old one works just fine, but it's a bit small and I wanted one that would fit an entire roast or turkey breast without having to cut the meat first.

One of the advantages of crockpots is that cooking is very easy. It usually consists of mixing some ingredients together, throwing it all in and turning it on.

I'd like to share some of my family's favorite easy crockpot recipes with you:

We love turkey year-round. I buy turkey breasts when they are on sale. These first few recipes are for turkey breasts:

1 turkey breast
2 cans cream of something soup
2 soup cans of water

We have used cream of mushroom mixed with cream of chicken soup. We have also used cream of asparagus mixed with cream of chicken soup. Both recipes come out wonderfully. Refer to your owner's manual to see how much liquid you need in the crockpot for perfect cooking. Depending on size, you may only need one can of water. Cook on low eight hours.

1 turkey breast
1 package onion soup mix
2 cups Sprite or 7-Up

I prefer the flavor of the soda to water. You can however use water mixed with the onion soup mix. If you want to add in some cut celery and/or carrots, that will add to the overall flavor of the sauce. Cover and cook on low eight hours.

1 turkey breast
1 can jellied cranberry sauce
1-2 cans chicken broth

I like to cut the cranberry sauce into small pieces and rub it all over the turkey. Then I mix the remaining cranberry sauce in with the clear chicken broth. Put the turkey into the crockpot then pour the sauce in. Cover and cook on low for eight hours.

If you prefer beef over turkey, here are a couple of very easy beef recipes:

2 pounds of meat - you can use either a roast or stew meat. Both will be tender after the hours of cooking.
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 envelope onion soup mix
Water

Mix together the soup, water and onion soup mix. Place meat in crockpot. Pour the sauce in and cook on low for seven to eight hours.

The final recipe I'd like to share with you is also a beef recipe:

1 roast
1 can beef broth
1 package Italian salad dressing mix
Water

Mix together the sauce. Place the roast in the crockpot and pour sauce over the meat. Cook on low about eight hours.

These are all easy yet flavorful recipes you can make in your crockpot.

Summertime Crockpot Recipes

Summertime crock pot recipes, you may ask? But the crock pot is only used for "cold-weather meals" such as stews, roasts, and other hearty stick-to-your-ribs type meals. Wrong! The crock pot has truly received a seasonal stereotype and sits in many kitchen cupboards all summer long. Bring it back to your kitchen counter during the summer; there are so many benefits and fabulous light summertime meals that can be prepared in the crock pot!

Most people already know how wonderful crockpot cooking is; throw a few ingredients in a pot, turn it on, and come back eight hours later to a wonderful home cooked meal. We also know that cheaper cuts of meat turn out tender and juicy because they're cooked with moist heat over long periods of time. Crock pot cooking is perfect for the busy homemaker, the office mom, the busy dad, the work-at-home mom, anyone who has anything to do during the day and is tired by dinnertime, not wanting to spend countless hours preparing dinner for their family. But crock pot cooking is also perfect for the summertime.

Where I live, we have humid, hot, sticky summers where the last thing I want to do is turn on my oven or fire up my gas stove, much less spend time standing around them preparing meals! During the summer I don't crave meals like chicken and dumplings, lasagna, beef stew, or pork roast. I want light meals with little or no preparation so I'm not standing in a hot kitchen getting even warmer and stickier. So, I use my crock pot! Out of any of the cooking devices in your kitchen, it sets off very little heat and can allow you to put everything into the slow cooker in the morning (when your kitchen is cool) and spoon it up at dinnertime (when your kitchen is not).

Sandwiches are among our favorite summertime meals, especially paired with corn on the cob and a salad. Put a 3 pound beef or pork roast in your crock pot with 1 cup of water. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Remove roast and shred meat, replace to crock pot and add a bottle of your favorite barbeque sauce. Stir, cover and cook on high an additional 15-20 minutes. Serve on sandwich buns - a great summertime meal.

Brats are also a huge summertime meal where I live, and many techniques have been created to prepare them properly. Many simmer their brats over a low flame on their stove in beer for hours, heating up their kitchen as they do so. I use my crockpot! Place 12 brats in your crock pot, cover with 3-4 cans of beer (the cheaper the better), add one chopped onion and 4 cloves of minced garlic. Cover and cook on high 7-8 hours. Remove brats and grill over a low flame until browned. Serve in hot dog or brat buns with ketchup, mustard, minced onion, and other desired toppings.

The crock pot is a wonderful kitchen appliance that should not be ignored during the summer. For more great summertime crock pot recipes, view this article on Natalie's Recipes.

2 Crockpot Recipes With Cabbage

Cabbage is a healthy choice but a lot of people avoid it because they think it is boring. There is no such thing as a boring vegetable though, just boring preparation methods. A heap of boiled green leaves on the side of the plate is not very appetizing but what about freshly made cabbage rolls in a tomato sauce or beef and vegetable casserole? There are ways to make this nutritious vegetable appealing.

This leafy, green ingredient is rich in vitamins A, B, C and E. Vitamin A is good for your eyes and skin, vitamin B boosts your metabolism and keeps nerve endings intact, vitamin C is an antioxidant and fat burner and vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant which is great for your skin.

This vegetable is also economical to buy and can be used in a lot of different recipes. If you used to have trouble convincing your kids to eat their greens, you will not have any problems if you make one of the following tasty crockpot recipes.

How To Make Easy Cabbage Rolls

These rolls, which are also known as dolma, are a delicacy in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe. If you want to make cabbage rolls in your crockpot, you will need to boil twelve cabbage leaves for three minutes or until they go limp, then drain off the water. Stir a cup of cooked rice with a pound of browned ground beef.

Add a beaten egg, quarter of a cup of milk, a finely chopped onion and some salt and black pepper. Put quarter of a cup of the beef mixture on each leaf and roll the ends over, folding in the sides, to form rolls. Arrange them in the slow cooker.

Stir a tablespoon each of lemon juice and brown sugar into a can of tomato sauce and add a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture over the cabbage rolls and cover the crockpot. Cook for eight hours on low. This recipe serves six and you can freeze any leftovers.

How To Make Crockpot Beef Casserole

Casseroles are always hearty and delicious and you can use cabbage to make a healthy, full-flavored casserole recipe in the slow cooker. You need to brown two pounds of ground beef and drain off the fat.

Shred a cabbage and chop an onion. Cover the bottom of your slow cooker with either tomato juice or beef broth and layer the vegetables in there, as well as the beef and some garlic salt, oregano, red pepper flakes and thyme for flavor. Repeat these layers, ending with beef.

Top the casserole with one pound of canned tomatoes (do not drain the can first) and some extra oregano. Cook it on high for an hour, the stir it. Cook on low for nine hours. This recipe feeds three or four people and it is perfect if you are going to be out all day and you are not sure what time you will get home because the casserole can cook from eight to ten and a half hours and still be fine.

Healthy Crock Pot Recipes With Easy Preparation

The other day I was looking through my grocer's weekly sale flyer and I found myself thinking, "The easier the preparation, the worse it is for you." Think about fast food. No preparation, but completely unhealthy.

I continued my thoughts through meal preparations - frozen TV dinners, frozen pizza, frozen "meal in a bag", boxed dinners, the list goes on and on. We are so concerned with doing things quickly we are hindering our health by jamming our bodies full of preservatives and things with names too long to state and too difficult to pronounce.

I pictured my grocery store, which wasn't difficult since I'm usually there at least twice a week. I love my grocer's produce section, seeing all the fresh fruits and vegetables; I usually spend most of my time there. However, thinking of all the isles that follow, my thoughts were once again confirmed. Packaged food after packaged food - even in the organic isle! I know that cooking with natural ingredients is the best way to go, but how are we to do it if we're bombarded with packaged, boxed, preserved food?

Thinking about my own cooking, I know that I use more "pre-packaged" items than I probably should. For convenience sake, I often used frozen vegetables and canned tomatoes. I feed my kids boxed macaroni and cheese. However, they don't eat frozen dinners, ready-made frozen chicken, and we never eat at fast food restaurants.

These thoughts drove me to research my own recipes; were there a handful of crock pot recipes with extremely easy preparation that are healthy? I did find a bunch, and although the recipes with canned soups tend to be higher in sodium, I believe I found a nice balance between easy preparation and health. Plus, every recipe on the list has 10 ingredients or less. You can view these recipes at http://www.natalies-recipes.com/website/easy-healthy-recipes.aspx.

When it comes right down to it, we want to be healthy and feed our families healthy meals. However, our busy lives often take over and prevent us from doing so. I hope that I have offered you some options to avoid the frozen dinners and fast food restaurants and create healthy meals with ease.

Making Hearty Chili in the Crockpot

If you are looking for new and simple ideas for a tasty meal, or you simply do not have a lot of time to spend preparing dinner, cooking in the crockpot can be the ideal solution.

There are many delicious recipes using a crockpot including countless varieties of chili, a classic dish that can be made in numerous, interesting ways. Also, other recipes for stovetop chili can easily be adapted to work with crockpots.

When it comes to making chili inside of the crockpot, very little preparation is needed and most of the ingredients are usually added in together all at once. Meats such as beef, chicken, and turkey can be browned quickly in a saucepan and then drained of all the grease before adding to the crockpot.

For a complete meal, cook your chili in the crockpot and then serve over rice, potatoes, or along with a salad and rolls or bread topped with butter and garlic. Or, if you are having a party or having some friends over for a casual get together, make a few different types of chili, in different crockpots, of course.

Have fun with your chili recipes and remember that the traditional, red tomato sauce does not always have to be used to create a delicious meal. With some boneless chicken and chicken bouillon or broth, your favorite white beans, seasonings, and extras such as cheese, rice, and vegetables you can make a hearty chicken chili right in the crockpot.

Crockpot White Chicken Chili Recipe

What You Need

2 cups chicken, cooked and diced or shredded
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can or 1-1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup frozen corn
2 cans cannellini beans (white kidney beans), drained
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

How to Make It

Add all of the ingredients to the crockpot and cook on the low setting for 6 to 8 hours.

Serve alone, with your favorite tortilla chips, over white rice, or mashed potatoes. Top each serving with some shredded cheddar cheese and add condiments such as sour cream and salsa.

Other cheeses you may want to consider for your white chili are Monterey, spicy pepper jack, or Swiss.

This white chili recipe, like many others meant for the crockpot, is quite versatile. You can substitute ingredients you do not really care for while adding your own favorites to the list. For instance, you may prefer other types of beans instead of the cannellini variety such as great northern white beans, or you may want to add some extra flavor using green chili peppers, jalapenos, or different seasonings.

Even vegetarians will enjoy this white chili recipe by substituting the chicken and chicken broth with another protein such as soy or tofu or perhaps extra vegetables. On the other hand, simply omit the meat products as the beans offer both texture and protein.

When looking for the best crockpot recipes choose those that ask for simple items or those that you know your family enjoys. But, don't be afraid to experiment with different ingredients as recipes for crockpot white chicken chili are about as versatile as the crockpot itself.

Breakfast in the Crockpot

It is wonderful to wake up to a hot, homemade breakfast. By using your crockpot, you can plug it in at night and have that wonderful breakfast in the morning. These recipes call for eight to ten hours of cooking time. It is my suggestion you plug it in just before going to bed and then check on it just as soon as you wake up in the morning.

I'd like to share a few ways you can use your crockpot to have a hot breakfast in the morning.

This first recipe combines eggs and potatoes in a breakfast casserole. Start with a bag of frozen hash brown potatoes. I always defrost them before using them. Depending on the size of your crockpot, you'll create either two or three layers. At the end, you'll be pouring an egg mixture over the top so make sure to leave room. Use 1/3 to ½ of the potatoes on the bottom of the crockpot. Next comes your breakfast meat. You'll use about one pound in this recipe. Cook your meat and now add 1/3 to ½ of the meat on top of the potatoes. Dice up one bell pepper and one onion and add this on top of the meat. Your last layer ingredient is cheese. Use either white or yellow cheese, depending on your own taste preference. Total cheese is about one and half cups.

Now it's time to create the egg mixture. Mix together one dozen eggs and one cup of milk. We always use non fat milk and it comes out just fine. If you like salt and pepper add about one half teaspoon of each to the egg mixture. You want to mix the eggs and milk well, then pour over the top of the casserole. Cover and cook on low for ten to twelve hours.

The other recipe I'd like to share with you is for French toast casserole made in the crockpot. Start with about twelve slices of bread. You can use whatever you have in the house. We love leftover egg bread. If the bread is not already sliced, create slices that are on the thinner side. I take the bottom crust off of the bread before putting it in the crockpot. Spray your crockpot well before making this recipe so nothing sticks. The bread will expand while cooking so make sure you adjust the recipe and amount of bread to accommodate your crockpot.

If you like blueberries, raisins or strawberries, add them on top of the bread. Beat together the following:

1 dozen eggs
4 cups of milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon salt

Pour this over the bread and then sprinkle with one quarter teaspoon of cinnamon on top. Cook on low about eight or nine hours. When you wake up in the morning, all of the liquid should have been absorbed by the bread.

These are just two ideas on having a hot breakfast ready for you when you wake up in the morning.

BANANA SPLIT CAKE

Crust: 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 stick unsalted butter, melted

Filling: 3 small pkgs sugar-free instant vanilla pudding mix

1 carton sugar-free whipped topping
3 tbsp chopped walnuts or pecans
3 tbsp sugar-free chocolate syrup (I recommend Russel Stover brand)

Mix pudding and milk together until thickened. Chill in the refrigerator while making the crust. To make crust, mix graham crackers and butter together and press onto the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan. Remove filling from refrigerator and spread over top of crust. Add topping ingredients one at a time in the order listed. Refrigerate until serving time. If you really want to dress up your cake and you aren't concerned about the little extra bit of sugar, top each piece with a maraschino cherry before serving.

Hungarian Goulash Crock Pot Recipe

With so many Hungarian Goulash recipes out there, how do you know what's authentic? Dumplings or not, stew or thicker, noodles or plain.

My husband spent a year abroad studying in Bonn, Germany and traveling all over Europe, so when he asked me to create an authentic Hungarian Goulash recipe I was a little timid. With a little bit of research and my crock pot, I came up with this recipe and held my breath while he took his first bite.

He loved it! He claims it is as close to "true" Hungarian Goulash as he's ever tasted in the states. We served it over noodles, however traditionally it's thicker than a stew and is eaten by itself; no dumplings, no noodles. Ironically enough, a few months later a friend of ours made the same recipe (found on Natalie's Recipes) for their father who was also picky about his goulash having spent time in Budapest. More compliments reigned in; this truly was a close-to-authentic recipe. Beyond that, it's extremely easy and very tasty - enjoy!

Crock pot Hungarian Goulash

Ingredients:

3 medium onions, chopped

1 large green pepper, chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 pounds beef stew meat or beef round steak cut into 1 inch pieces

1- 12 ounce can tomato paste

3 tsp paprika

¼ tsp black pepper

1- 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes, undrained

Spray crock pot with non-stick cooking spray. Add all ingredients, mix well. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or high 3-4 hours. Serve with noodles.

Note: Add another teaspoon or so of paprika if you'd like a little more spice.

2 Fabulous Pork Crock Pot Recipe

Here are 2 fabulous pork crock pot recipes. The first recipe is a slow cooked pork shoulder.

The flavor and tenderness of a pork shoulder is very hard to beat. The pork shoulder is one of the family's favorite cuts. It consists of a boneless pork shoulder. It is cooked at low temperature for perfection. A tangy mixture of jelly and mustard are well suited.
Ingredients:

o 3 large onions preferably sliced
o a boneless pork shoulder roast
o pepper and salt
o 24 ounces of best apple jelly
o half a cup of chicken broth
o water
o 3 tablespoons of mustard

Preparation:

First step is to arrange the onion slices in the crock pot. They should be placed on the bottom. The roast pork should be washed and then dried. Leaving it in its netting, the onions should be placed. The remaining ingredients get combined in a separate bowl. The mixture has to be poured over the pork roast. Cook on high for 2 hours, while the crock pot is covered. Then turn to low and cook for another 8 hours.
The second pork crock pot recipe is for brown sugar pork loin.

This is a delicious, sweet and easily spiced recipe. It is to be served with mashed potatoes and a dish of vegetables prepared as you wish.

Ingredients:

o a pork loin roast with no bones, preferably weighing about 5 pounds
o a garlic, also halved
o salt and pepper
o 2 cups of sugar, brown and divided
o a tablespoon of mustard
o a tablespoon of vinegar
o a teaspoon of nice cinnamon

Preparation:

The pork roast is to be washed first of all. Pat dry, rub it with the garlic and trim any excess fat. Sprinkle the salt and pepper. Use a skewer to prick the roast everywhere. Combine the sugar, the vinegar and the mustard in a bowl. Use the mixture to rub it all over the pork roast. Cook for 8 hours at low temperature. The crock pot should be covered. Spread the cinnamon over the pork. Continue the cook for one more hour on low.

Seafood Soup

As a busy mom of 4, I often have the challenge of finding recipes that are tasty enough for kids, yet not the traditional chicken-nuggets-or-hot-dogs kind of menu my kids would eat everyday if they were allowed to do so. Add the convenience of using the crockpot, which is such an amazing time saver, and you've got the makings of a great recipe.

This simple seafood soup feeds 8-10 people, and has the Kenny children seal of approval. It is also fairly inexpensive, with ingredients that you can find in any grocery store. We usually serve it with homemade bread & a big salad.

Ingredients:

3 cans of cheddar cheese soup, 3 cans of cream of potato soup, 6 cans of milk, 1 8oz. package of imitation crab meat, 1 can of chopped or minced clams, 1 can of shrimp, choice of spices to taste.

First, empty all cans of soup (both kinds) into the crockpot. Add 6 cans of milk, using the soup cans. Mix together with a whisk. Add clams & shrimp, including liquid in the cans. Mix with whisk. Cut up the crab meat into bite-sized pieces. Mix with whisk again. Add your choices of spices to taste and whisk one final time. Cook in crockpot on high for 4 to 6 hours. Stir before serving.

This recipe serves approximately 10 bowls of soup, and freezes very well. For added flair, you may also use canned crab or lump crab. This soup can be very versatile. If you do not enjoy potatoes in your soup, I recommend you use 6 cans of cheddar cheese soup, leaving out the cream of potato soup completely. Hope you enjoy the soup!

Simple Crockpot Appetizers

Break that crockpot out of the cupboard more often. Do not use it just to make stews and soups; you can use crockpots to make dips, sauces and all sorts of appetizers. One of the best things about making meatballs in the crockpot is they stay moist and tender. You can even serve them directly from the crockpot; just place some toothpicks or small skewers nearby that your guests can use to spear them and put them on their plates.

Crockpot meatballs can be made with all sorts of sauces. Use a barbecue sauce, or our zesty beer and tomato sauce published here in this recipe. You can also make Swedish meatballs this way. Instead of them becoming dried out from the oven, they get to cook slowly, covered in sauce. The meatballs soak up the flavors of the sauce and retain their natural moisture. When you take a bite you will be transported to culinary bliss. All the flavors of the sauce come together in your mouth with the ground beef, creating a wonderful taste sensation. You could even make this for dinner one night and serve it alongside potatoes, rice or even over pasta. What an easy, delicious meal!

If you like meatballs, invest in a couple different crockpots and you can make several different recipes when your friends come over to watch the big game or you want to ring in the New Year. Leftover sauce can be used as a dip for bread slices or poured over rice or potatoes. Use your imagination. Crockpot appetizer recipes are easy and make preparing for your party less stressful.

Recipe for Zesty Beer Meatballs

These delicious meatballs are full of flavor and spice.

What You Need

3 pounds lean ground beef
1 cup onions, chopped and divided
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs, finely ground
3 eggs
1 can (12 ounces) of your favorite beer
1 (6 ounces) can V-8 juice (regular or spicy)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon hot sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 large bottle (14 to 16 ounces) of ketchup
1 teaspoon horseradish
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

How to Make It

Mix the ground beef, half of the onions, the bread crumbs, and eggs in a bowl. Do not be afraid to use your hands. Form the mixture into small meatballs.

Brown the meatballs in a large skillet, turning frequently to brown all surfaces. Alternatively, you could also bake them in the oven for 30 minutes at 375 degrees F. until they are browned. Drain the meatballs and discard the fat.

Take a saucepan and combine the beer, V-8 juice, lemon juice, hot sauce, ketchup, horseradish, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Place the meatballs into the crockpot. Pour the sauce over them. Cover and let them cook on Low for 3 to 6 hours. Occasionally, gently stir the meatballs.

If you want more sauce, add more ketchup and V-8. Season accordingly.

Makes 6 dozen meatballs.

Only the best crockpot recipes become family favorites. Take crockpot beef stew, for example. This classic dish does well in a crockpot because the slow cooking time tenderizes the beef and combines the flavors. Crockpot cooking brings all the components of this recipe together perfectly.

Sweet Slow Cooker Recipes and Crockpot Desserts

If you have an old crockpot gathering dust in the back of the cupboard, it is time to dust it off and get excited about slow cooking again. Perhaps you have used your slow cooker once or twice to make classic slow cooker recipes like soup or casserole, but did you know that you can make desserts in the crockpot too?

You can make all kinds of desserts in there, in fact, including rice pudding, bread pudding, and cobbler recipes and even dump cake. Dump cake might not have an attractive name but it is an incredibly attractive recipe because it just involves "dumping" all the ingredients into the slow cooker, giving them a stir and leaving the mixture to cook by itself all day. The end result is a delicious and perfectly flavored dessert which is so easy.

Other Crockpot Dessert Ideas

You might want to make a crockpot dessert and a sauce on the stove to go with it. While the dessert finishes cooking you will have plenty of time to make a tasty homemade sauce (or drive to the store to buy some ice cream or whipped cream!)

How about trying a crockpot fruit crisp recipe? This is so simple. You just need to chop some fruit and add it to the crockpot. Sprinkle over some oats, sugar, flour, melted butter and spices and cook until the fruit is hot and bubbly. This is wonderful with ice cream.

Recipes like these are ideal if you have a busy day lined up, because they mean dessert is one less thing to think about. Simply start it off in the morning and it will take care of itself, leaving your time free to focus on other things.

Recipe for Sweet Potato Cobbler

This southern style dessert recipe serves six people and it tastes so good. The combination of sweet potatoes, nuts, orange, sugar, eggs, flour and more results in a really mouthwatering dessert. Serve it alone or with a dollop of vanilla ice cream, orange sorbet or whipped cream.

What you will need:

18 oz canned sweet potatoes

1 tablespoon orange juice

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons melted butter

2 tablespoons flour

2 beaten eggs

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons light brown sugar

2 tablespoons white sugar

1/2 cup evaporated milk

How to make it:

Drain and mash the canned sweet potatoes with the white sugar, 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar and 1/4 cup of the butter. Beat in the evaporated milk, eggs and orange juice. Lightly butter the slow cooker and transfer the sweet potato mixture to it.

Mix the flour, pecans and the remaining brown sugar and butter. Spread this mixture over the top of the sweet potato mixture. Cover the crockpot and cook for about 3 and a half hours on high. Serve hot.

Crockpots are not just for making soups and casseroles. In fact, some of the best slow cooker recipes are for delicious desserts. Why not explore the sweeter side of slow cooking and make some delicious crockpot desserts for the family? You are sure to find something to suit everyone's taste.

Crockpot Brown Sugar Glazed Pork Roast

How can you save money on groceries, save time in your day, and still please the whole family? With a recipe that takes advantage of a cheaper cut of meat by cooking it all day in the crockpot, making for an easy dinner when you get home in the evening.

My oldest son LOVES pork loin, and when he saw a pork loin roast on sale in the paper, he began waving the ad in front of me. "Please, mom, please will you get this?" You'd think I never fed the boy meat, but he is a teen after all, so any meal eaten more than ten minutes before doesn't count.

I realized at the store that this was a loin roast and not the pork loin that I usually buy on sale. Nonetheless, for $1.78 a pound, I was willing to experiment.

Since this son is gluten-intolerant, I have to adapt many recipes to make them work for our dinner table. In an online search, I found two recipes that sounded great. I took my favorite ingredients from each, eliminated the flour, and a new family hit was created:

Crockpot Brown Sugar Glazed Pork Roast

1 pork loin roast
1c. brown sugar
1 T. Dijon mu
2 T. apple cider vinegar
2 cloves garlic
1/2 t. chili powder
1 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper
1/2 t. cumin
1t. cinnamon

Place the pork loin roast in a crockpot. Mix all other ingredients together in a bowl to form a thick paste. Rub it all over the roast, set the crockpot to cook for 8 hours, and you're done.

In the evening, I cooked up some rice in the rice cooker and heated some vegetables to go with it. The roast in its own juices over the rice was great, but if you like a thicker gravy, you could add some cornstarch or flour just before serving.

Yum!

Cooking - Crockpots Save Time and Money

The two main advantages of crockpot cooking are that they:

Save Time
Save Money

Time-Saver

Crockpot cooking for me is synonymous with time-saver. We each have different phases of life and this season is definitely my crockpot phase -- maybe out of desperation. No matter what stage we're in though, crockpot cooking can always be a benefit.

Here's a scenario: It's five o'clock and you've finally finished helping with the homework with two of your children, and then your third child returns from piano -- ready to start homework -- and has a question about algebra. Soccer practice starts in exactly one hour. And not to mention that you've got three loads of laundry spewed across your bed and ready to be folded. The phone rings -- a reminder to bring snacks to soccer practice, it's your turn. The kids are hungry, hubby will be home in thirty minutes. Do you make that call? "Honey, could you bring home In & Out again, the usual?" Or do you simply whip up a salad to go with your chicken cacciatore that's been cooking slowly and succulently in your crockpot all day. This truly is my life and I'm working towards the latter scenario becoming a more prevalent one.

Perhaps you remember crockpots back when you were a kid -- along with Barry Manilow, mood rings, and banana seats -- all popular in the 1970's. Crockpots are now making a comeback, and for Vegas supporters, so is Barry Manilow. The essential ingredient here is not that we're all going retro but rather that life is busy and we're seeking time-management helps that work. Five o'clock can be the busiest, so preparing food the night before and putting it in containers overnight or chopping and dicing earlier in the day can be the most convenient and healthy solution.

Money-Saver

This type of cooking saves money on many levels. As I mentioned earlier, if you're organized and have your pizza in a pot cooking all day -- you won't be tempted to call Dominos at five pm. Eating out does get expensive, especially for an entire family and if it becomes a habit. Cooking in the crock is a longer process than in the oven or on the grill and because of this meats are really tender, even with cheaper cuts of meat. Therefore it really has the potential of reducing our grocery bills.

In the summertime it's hot -- especially where I'm living in the desert -- so any excuse not to heat up the house is a good one. Energy bills are definitely affected.

There are numerous crockpot cookbooks out there with healthy and tasty family-friendly recipes. Incorporating crockpots back into our lives can be one of the first and simplest of many steps in achieving organization and balance in our lives.

Cooking Roast in the Crockpot

I make it a habit to use my crockpot at least a couple of times a week. Being a red meat lover, I often make roast in the crockpot.

I'd like to share some ideas on cooking roast in the crockpot. My first tip is to not worry about the cut of meat. In fact, I look for cuts that are a lesser quality but on sale. Since the crockpot will make the meat quite tender, I know it's ok to buy a lesser cut of meat.

I make several different sauces when I cook a roast in the crockpot. The simplest recipe is just beef broth with some cut up vegetables. I use one can of store brand, low sodium beef broth. You can use whatever vegetables you enjoy flavoring meat with. I've put in potatoes, carrots, celery, onions and mushrooms. Set your timer for eight hours on low and you'll have a delicious roast. If you do put in some potatoes, the potatoes get soft and absorb the flavor of the sauce.

The next sauce I create is cranberry sauce mixed with onion soup. I set aside about one fourth of the jellied cranberry sauce. I mix together the remaining cranberry and onion soup mix. I then add in about three or four cups of water, depending on the size of the crockpot I'm using. Spread the set aside cranberry sauce on the top of the roast. Again, I set the timer for eight hours on low and start it up.

If you enjoy mushroom gravy, mix one can of cream of mushroom soup with about three cups of water. Place the roast in the crockpot. Pour the sauce over the roast and cook on low about eight hours. If you like fresh mushrooms, place a dozen or so in the crockpot for the last hour of cooking.

Do you ever have left over flat cola? I love to create a sauce using cola. Use one third cup mustard, one third cup ketchup and two cups cola. If you like onion, add in some sliced onions. Like all the other recipes, cook on low about eight hours.

You can also use beer for the sauce of a brisket. Mix together one can of onion soup and one can of mushroom soup. Add in two cups of water and one can of beer. Pour sauce over roast. Cook for eight hours on low. You'll have a wonderful tasting sauce/gravy.

The ideas on how to cook a roast in the crockpot are endless. Try creating your own sauces and enjoy a hot red meat meal.

Quick and Easy Chicken and Sausage Crock Pot

This modification of a classic Philippine dish is quick and easy as are most crock pot recipes. The chicken and sausage are browned. Then the onions, potatoes and garlic are chopped. Then it's a matter of dropping them into the crock pot along with the other ingredients, setting it and walking away for a few hours. This recipe is another in the series of dishes designed for busy people who want more nutritious meals that can be prepared quickly. Because of the use of mostly fresh ingredients, it is also likely to be more healthful than the previously prepared microwave dishes at the supermarket. Put this one on before you go to work, then come home to a house filled with delicious aromas, and a great tasting meal. This recipe will probably serve four, but if there are two of you, the leftovers will make you a second meal when reheated. Hope you like it!

Ingredients

1 chicken leg quarter with skin and bones
1 link of Italian sausage (about 3 ounces)
1 small onion, chopped fine
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium potato, peeled and chopped fine
1 teaspoon peppercorns
1 bay leaf
1 can diced tomatoes (you could use chopped fresh tomato)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 cup wine vinegar

Instructions

1 - Brown the chicken and Italian sausage together, then put in the crock pot.
2 - Remove the glaze from the skillet by adding the diced tomatoes, then put in the crock pot.
3 - Add the other ingredients and give it a stir.
4 - Cook on high for about 6-8 hours.
Serve over pasta or rice if desired.

3 Crockpot Sausage Recipes

Sausages cook well in the crockpot and you can combine them with all kinds of other ingredients to bring out their natural flavor. Smoked, Polish, or Italian varieties or any other kind suits this cooking method.

Mustard Flavored Sausages In Beer

The sugar and vinegar gives the dish a great tang and the beer is really tasty in this dish too. This recipe makes enough to serve six people.

What You Need:

1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup prepared mustard
2 lbs Polish or smoked turkey sausage, in 1 inch rounds
1/4 cup vinegar
1 quartered onion, cut into 1/2 inch slices
1 tablespoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 teaspoons water
2/3 cup beer

How To Make It:

Put the meat and onion in the crockpot. Stir the mustard with the vinegar and beer and add this too. Cover and cook for six to eight hours on low. Stir in the cornstarch paste to make the recipe thicker. Serve it with noodles, rice or potato salad.

Creamy Sausage and Potato Stew

This recipe, which serves four to six people, does not contain a lot of different ingredients but the flavors are great. Using condensed creamy soups gives the dish a creamy flavor and the vegetables add nutritional value to the meal.

What You Need:

10 3/4 oz can condensed cream of celery soup
10 3/4 oz can condensed cheddar cheese soup
1 lb cooked smoked sausage, in 1/2 inch rounds
2 1/2 lbs potatoes, in 1/4 inch slices
1 cup frozen carrots and peas
1 cup chopped onion

How To Make It:

Layer a third of the potatoes in a four quart crockpot, then a third of the meat, a third of the onion and on top of that put a third of the cheese soup. Repeat the same layers twice more.

Pour in the celery soup and then cover the slow cooker and cook for eight to ten hours on low or four to five hours on high. Thaw the vegetables under warm running water twenty minutes before the dish is done, then add them to the slow cooker and keep cooking the recipe for fifteen more minutes.

Herby Italian Sausages

You can serve this recipe as a sauce for buns or pasta or top it with cheese and broil. This recipe has a beautiful Italian flavor and makes enough to serve four people. You can serve a tasty green salad on the side if you like.

What You Need:

5 Italian sausages
1 chopped green bell pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 halved, sliced onions
5 diced tomatoes
Salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper, to taste
Sliced mozzarella (optional)

How To Make It:

Simmer the sausages in water for twenty minutes in a pan, then drain them and put them in the crockpot. Add the bell pepper, oregano, basil, tomato paste, onions, diced tomatoes, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Cover and cook for six to eight hours on low. If you are using the cheese, transfer the cooked recipe to a dish, arrange the mozzarella on top, and broil until the cheese is bubbly.

Making Macaroni and Cheese in the Crockpot

My daughter made the most delicious dinner last night. She is a macaroni and cheese lover. Her grandmother used to make macaroni and cheese from scratch, over the stove, while everyone else was buying boxes of Kraft. It was these memories that led her to want to try the macaroni and cheese in the crockpot.

This is a very cheesy, rich recipe.

Start with two cups of macaroni noodles - this can be made with either elbow macaroni or even penne pasta. Boil the pasta seven minutes. Pasta should be soft at this point. Drain the pasta but do not rinse.

While the macaroni is boiling, grab a sauce pan and combine four tablespoons of butter and two and a half cups of cheese. We like mild cheddar. The original recipe called for sharp cheddar. We also use a lower fat cheese, thus cutting out some of the calories. Stir the butter and cheese together over a low fire until the cheese melts.

Pour the melted cheese mixture into the crock pot and add in three scrambled eggs. We actually used one whole egg and two egg whites. I couldn't justify the extra yolks. Mix in one cup of sour cream. We used low fat sour cream. I've cooked with the non fat sour cream and the taste changes. If you can, stick with either low fat or regular sour cream.

Add in one can of cheese soup. Any brand is fine, we happened to use the popular national brand. We searched for a lower fat version of the soup and could not find one. Had we found it, we would have used it. Add in a half teaspoon of ground mustard and salt and pepper to taste. We are not salt users and the butter has salt in it, so we did not add any salt to our mac and cheese. We did add in pepper, probably a half teaspoon worth.

Stir everything together and then pour in drained noodles. Mix together to coat the noodles. We took off the lid three times to stir it. The more you remove the lid, the more cooking time you'll need.

The sauce thickened in between each stirring. The sides and bottom ended up being just a little browned and crunchy which I personally love.

Kids love cut up hot dogs in their macaroni and cheese. Add the hot dogs for the last 30 minutes of cooking.

As I read reviews on this recipe, I noted many people said theirs was overcooked. Make sure your crockpot is on low and make sure you stir it a few times while cooking.

We served this with a green salad and garlic bread and had a wonderful dinner that everyone enjoyed.

Crockpot Dessert Recipes

One of the things I most love about my crockpots is that you can make breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert in them.

I'd like to share a few dessert recipes with you. This first recipe is a chocolate cake that uses a boxed cake mix. I find them on sale and then buy them for later use.

1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 small box of chocolate sugar free pudding
4 eggs
1 cup water
¾ cup oil
12 ounce container of low fat or fat free sour cream

Mix all ingredients together and pour into the crockpot. Cook on low about 6 hours. Allow to cool about 2 hours before removing from crockpot.

We love peanut butter and chocolate. You can add either chocolate chips or peanut butter chips to this recipe for a great added taste. Mix them in at the end and mix just enough to distribute them in the batter.

This next recipe is very similar. It's a blueberry cake, which also begins with a cake mix.

1 box yellow cake mix
1 can - 21 ounces blueberry pie filling
½ cup butter, softened

Pour the pie filling in the crockpot. Mix together the butter and cake mix. Pour this on top of the blueberry pie filling. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours.

Try this recipe using a chocolate cake mix and a can of cherry pie filling.

In both cases, serve the cake warm and put a bit of Cool Whip on top.

I happen to love Crème Brulee. Imagine my delight when I discovered this wonderful recipe could be made in the crockpot and that it was hard to mess it up.

You'll need ramekin dishes and a crockpot for this dish. I found Ramekin dishes at our local bed and bath store. They had sets of four on sale for under $10. They are basically single serving casserole dishes that can go into your oven. So for this recipe, you'll need 4 ramekin dishes and a crockpot large enough to hold all 4 of them. My 6 quart crockpot works great. Place the ramekin dishes in the crockpot and then add enough hot water that the water comes about ¾ of the way up the side of the dishes.

Now, create the crème brulee:

5 egg yolks
2 cups heavy cream
½ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla

Whip these ingredients together and pout into the ramekins. You'll cook on high 2-4 hours. Check your brulee after 2 hours. The edges should be set, the center will still be a little soft. What's very nice is that it's hard to overcook these in the crockpot.

Once done, remove from crockpot and allow to cool completely on the countertop. Once they are cool, place the dishes in the refrigerator about four hours.

Sprinkle raw sugar on top of each dish and then place dishes in oven on broil. Get the dishes as close to the broiler as possible. Brown for 3-5 minutes. Allow to cool and then refrigerate until ready to serve. When serving, place a strawberry half on top of each dish.

Crockpots are amazing. You truly can make just about anything in them.

Make a Simply Healthy Stew in the Crockpot

With America in an obesity epidemic, many people are looking at healthier dishes. Another thing to consider is how digestible foods are, how low in fat they are, and what they provide nutritionally. Rabbit stew is one of those recipes that has fallen by the wayside, only to be brought back because it is simple and nutritious. This handy recipe for rabbit stew is simple, full of flavor, and the stew is a perfect meal anytime. Toss in a few potatoes and carrots and you can serve it all on its own without any side dishes as a one pot meal.

Rabbit actually provides the lowest cholesterol levels of any meat on the market. It is also lower in fat than chicken, beef, pork, or turkey. At the same time, it provides more protein per mouthful than any of the others. According to the US Department of Agriculture, rabbit is the most nutritious meat known to humankind. It is especially well suited to those on special diets because it is very easily digested. Rabbit has only 795 calories per pound; much lower than chicken's 810, turkey's 1190, beef's 1440 and pork's 2050 calories. Domestic rabbit is also 100% white meat. It has a finer grain than chicken, though you can substitute rabbit in most chicken recipes. Some grocery stores carry rabbit; otherwise, you can get it from specialty markets or direct from the farmer.

Rabbits have been used for food since man first learned to hunt. In ancient Rome, they were kept inside walled gardens so they would be available for meals whenever they were needed. They lend themselves well to moist cooking methods like the crockpot because they are so low in fat. They tend to dry out too much when roasted. The crockpot is perfect as it keeps the moisture all around the meat. A stew brings out the most nutrition through the long, slow cooking process. It is a nourishing comfort food that goes well with crusty bread, potatoes, or rice. Cornbread makes a nice side for stew, also. This simple recipe takes minutes to put together; all you have to do is turn on the crockpot and come home to dinner. You could just eat it as is with some bread to sop up the sauce and a fresh salad.

Recipe for Rabbit Stew

Rabbit is one of the healthiest meats you can eat.

What You Need

1 or 2 rabbits
1 cup sour cream
1 cup cream of mushroom soup
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 onion, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make It

Cut up the rabbits and season with salt and pepper.

Mix the sour cream, mushroom soup and Worcestershire sauce and add it to the crock pot. Place the meat inside and add in the chopped onions.

Cook on Low for 8 hours.

Serve with rice or mashed potatoes.

Note: Add root vegetables and potatoes for a one pot stew or serve on top of rice or noodles for a full meal.

When choosing your best crockpot recipes, be sure to choose them for nutrition, flavor and convenience. One excellent choice is crockpot white chicken chili. It is full of delicious flavors and it is lower in fat than beef chili. Try it and see if you like it.
