Crockpot cooking is one of the most under-utilized techniques available to help today's single mothers. Life can be pretty hectic for the single mother on any and every given day. There are lots of things to do and take care of. One of those of course is figuring out "what's for dinner".

Casserole Recipes and Pork Chops to Make in Your Slow Cooker or Crockpot

Let your crockpot or slow cooker help you prepare your meals, especially on busy days! This article has recipes for a Green Bean Casserole and a Round Steak Casserole that are created for your crockery cooker. The "Chickin' Lickin' Good Pork Chops" is a real twist on pork chops.

GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
2 lbs fresh green beans, washed and broken into bite-size pieces
1 can (10 1/2-oz) cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1 small can French-fried onion rings
1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
1 can water chestnuts, sliced thin
salt to taste
1/8 tsp black pepper
1/2 cup water

Divide the green beans into thirds and layer a third on the bottom of the crockpot or slow cooker. Cover with a third of the mushroom soup. Spread a third of the onion rings over the soup. Top with a third of the water chestnuts. Sprinkle with a little salt and a third of the pepper. Repeat the layers two more times, saving a few of the onion rings for later. Pour the water over all. Put the lid on the cooker and cook on high setting for 8 to 10 hours. About 20 minutes before serving, remove the lid and sprinkle the remaining onion rings over the top for a crunchy topping.

ROUND STEAK CASSEROLE
2 lb round steak, 1/2-inch thick
garlic salt, according to taste
salt, according to taste
pepper, according to taste
1 onion, sliced
3 large or 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters
1 can green beans, drained
1 can (10 3/4-oz) tomato soup
1 can (16-oz) stewed tomatoes

Season the steak with the garlic salt, salt, and pepper according to your taste. Cut into serving-size pieces and place in the crockpot or slow cooker. Add the onion, separated into rings. Add the potatoes and top with the green beans. Pour the tomato soup over all and top with the stewed tomatoes. Cover and cook 8 to 10 hours on low.

"CHICKEN LICKIN' GOOD" PORK CHOPS
6 to 8 lean pork chops, 1-inch thick
1/2 cup flour
1 tbsp salt
1 1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 tbsp canola oil
1 can chicken rice soup, undiluted

In a shallow dish or pie plate, combine the flour, salt, dry mustard, and garlic powder. Dredge the pork chops in the flour mixture.

Heat the oil in a large skillet and brown the pork chops on both sides. Place the pork chops in the slow cooker or crock pot. Add the soup. Cover the pot and cook chops on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high 3 1/2 to 4 hours.

Using Poultry in the Slow Cooker or Crockpot: Turkey Chili and Drumsticks and Bell Peppers

One of the best inventions for today's cooks, in my opinion, is the crockpot or slow cooker. You can put your meal on and go to work, run errands, or whatever your day requires. When you get home your house smells delicious and your meal is basically ready. What could be easier? Another advantage for busy families is that the food stays warm and available when meals cannot be eaten together. And even better, especially in the economic environment of today, you can buy less expensive cuts of meat and the slow cooking renders them as tasty as the expensive cuts. Today's article shares a couple of poultry recipes, very different but both tasty.

EASY TURKEY CHILI
vegetable cooking spray
2 lbs ground turkey (read label for ground without skin)
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 can (16-oz) stewed tomatoes, undrained
1 can (10-oz) tomatoes with green chiles, undrained
2 cups tomato juice
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 can (15 to 16-oz) chili beans, drained

Coat a large skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Add the turkey, onion, bell pepper, and garlic; saute over medium-high heat until the turkey loses pink color. Transfer mixture to the slow cooker or crockpot. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Add cover to pot and cook on low heat for 3 to 4 hours.

DRUMSTICKS AND BELL PEPPERS
2 tsp canola oil
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
1 onion, sliced
3/4 tsp salt
1 (14 1/2-oz) can stewed tomatoes
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 tsp dried rosemary
1 tbsp fennel seeds
8 chicken drumsticks
2 cups orzo*

Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add bell peppers, onion, and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt; cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, 6 to 8 minutes. Transfer bell pepper mixture to crockpot or slow-cooker. Stir in tomatoes and broth.

Combine rosemary, fennel, and the remaining salt in large bowl. Add chicken; toss to coat. Heat remaining 1 teaspoon of oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook, turning occasionally, until browned, 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer chicken to slow cooker and press down into the peppers mixture. Cover and cook until chicken and vegetables are fork tender. This should take 3 to 4 hours on high or 6 to 8 hours on low.

About 20 or 30 minutes before serving, cook the orzo according to package directions. Serve chicken and sauce with the orzo.

Yield: 8 servings
*This could be served with noodles, if you prefer.

Feel Better With Chicken Noodle Soup in the Crockpot

Chicken noodle soup has been a favorite in families for countless generations. If someone has ever made the homemade treat for you when you were not feeling well then you know just how comforting it can be.

There is evidence that as early as the 12th century healers "prescribed" chicken broth to their sick patients. The broth was poured over pieces of bread, which were known as "sops" evolving into the word we use now, "soup." And today, we finally have evidence that ingredients in chicken soup do indeed help to relieve symptoms of the common cold and similar ailments.

Amino acids in chicken that are released during the cooking process are rather similar to the chemicals in medication prescribed to patients with serious chest colds and bronchitis. Carrots, a vegetable usually found in chicken noodle soup, are an excellent source of vitamins that help to fight off infection. Onions, another primary ingredient of the soup, contain antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory agents to help fight illness.

Recipe for Crockpot Chicken Noodle Soup

What You Need


3 large sized carrots
2 stalks of celery
1 medium sized onion
3 pound broiler or fryer chicken
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dried basil
3 cups water
16 ounce package noodles, uncooked

How to Make It

Clean and peel the carrots and cut into slices or small chunks. Clean and cut the celery into small pieces. Peel and cut the onion into slices.

Add the carrots and celery to the bottom of a 5 quart crockpot and place the onion slices on top.

If you are using a whole chicken, clean and cut it into large pieces while removing excess fat and the skin. Put the chicken in the crockpot atop the vegetables and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and basil.

Add the 3 cups of water to the crockpot and cook covered on the high setting for one hour. Cook the soup on the low setting for an additional 6 to 8 hours, or until the chicken is done and the vegetables are tender. You can also cook your soup completely on the low setting for 8 to 10 hours.

After cooking time is complete, carefully remove the chicken from the crockpot and set aside.

Add the package of uncooked noodles to the chicken broth in the crockpot and cover and cook on the high setting for 15 minutes. Take care not to overcook the noodles as they will become too soft and mushy. You can also cook the noodles in a pot of boiling water on the stovetop before adding them to the crockpot.

As the noodles are cooking either in the crockpot or on the stove, remove the chicken from the bone and cut into pieces.

After the noodles are done cooking, put the pieces of chicken back into the crockpot and cover. Allow all of the ingredients to sit and warm in the crockpot before serving. If your soup needs more liquid, add some hot chicken broth made from bouillon cubes and allow to warm in the crockpot for 15 minutes before serving.

Hamburger Meat in the Crockpot

I happen to be a ground meat lover. While today I use mostly ground turkey, I still love my ground meat recipes. I own a cookbook called 365 Ways to Cook Hamburger. I love that cookbook. When I began using my crockpot more often, I began to look for ways I could convert many of my favorite recipes to crockpot recipes.

Since I began using ground turkey, one of my favorite dishes is meatloaf. I rotate making it in the oven and making it in the crockpot.

I use between two and two and a half pounds of ground turkey. Many people mix ground meats. I just use the turkey. Your consistency will be different if you use ground lamb, ground pork or ground beef. All are fine to use, you'll just taste the difference. The ground turkey doesn't always hold together from the crockpot, but the taste is wonderful.

In a large bowl, mix the ground meat with all of the following:

1 egg
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon Worchester sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 cup breadcrumbs
Diced onion to taste - My daughter does not like real onion so I use a few spoons of onion flakes.

After mixing together, shape into a ball that will fit into your crockpot. As I mentioned above, this does tend to fall apart a bit, so line your crockpot with foil. Fit the ball into the foil and cover. Cook on low about eight hours.

We will often add a quarter cup to a half cup of Parmesan cheese to the mixture. We love the taste of the cheese in the meatloaf.

When I was a child growing up, my mom used to make sweet and sour meatballs that we all begged her to make often. It was the simplest of recipes. She combined grape jelly and chili sauce to make the sauce. Then she'd boil it down twice before serving. I found a way to convert this recipe to my crockpot.

Since I start with ground turkey, I add breadcrumbs to the meat to help hold it together. I use between one and two pounds of meat, usually closer to the two pound mark. In a bowl, I mix a sixteen ounce jar of grape jelly and a twelve ounce bottle of chili sauce. I form the meat balls and roll them in the mixture. Then I place the meatballs in to the crockpot. Once I've coated the last meatball, I pour the sauce into the crockpot, over the meatballs. Cover and cook on low six to eight hours. These are wonderful over brown rice. The sauce soaks in the rice and it's just delicious.

Forget Heating Up the Oven or Standing Over a Hot Stove, Get Out the Slow Cooker or Crockpot!

There is no need to give up hearty healthy meals just because you don't want to heat up the kitchen. You can have tasty and hearty meals without using the oven or standing over a hot stove. Get out your slow cooker or crockpot and make a delicious Vegetable Beef Soup. Sloppy Joes in the crockpot are a great way to serve a busy family. Does your family prefer chicken? Make them Cashew Chicken. The recipe call for serving it over hot pasta. If you don't want to make pasta, why not cook some minute brown rice?

SLOW COOKER VEGETABLE BEEF SOUP
1 lb boneless round steak, cut into bite-size pieces
1 can (14 1/2-oz)diced tomatoes, undrained
3 cups water
3 medium potatoes, peeled & cubed
2 medium onions, diced
3 celery ribs, sliced
3 medium carrots, sliced
1 cup cut-up cabbage
3 beef bouillon cubes
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables

Combine all the above ingredients, except the frozen vegetables, in the crockpot or slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 6 hours. Add the frozen vegetables, cover and cook for an additional 2 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.

Yield: 8 to 10 servings

CROCKPOT SLOPPY JOES
3 lb lean ground beef
1 can (16-oz) tomato sauce
1 cup water
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
2 medium yellow onions, chopped
2 pkgs dry Sloppy Joe mix
salt and pepper to taste

Brown ground beef in a skillet and drain off the excess fat. Put ground beef into the crockpot and add the remaining ingredients; stir to mix well. Cook on low setting 8 to 10 hours or on high setting for 5 to 6 hours.

Serve on hamburger buns with assorted condiments.

SLOW COOKER CASHEW CHICKEN
1 (3 to 4 lb)chicken, cut up and skin removed
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
1/3 cup orange juice concentrate, undiluted
1 tsp dried rosemary
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tbsp flour
3 tbsp water
1/2 cup chopped cashews
Hot cooked whole-grain pasta

Place chicken in slow cooker. Combine the onion, orange juice concentrate, rosemary, salt and cayenne pepper; pour over the chicken. Cover and cook on low 4 to 5 hours until the chicken juices run clear. Remove chicken from slow cooker and keep warm.

In a saucepan combine the flour and water until smooth. Stir in the cooking juices and bring to a boil. Cook, stirring, for a couple of minutes until thickened. Stir in the cashews. Pour mixture over the chicken and serve with the hot pasta.

Recipe for Chocolate and Peanuts Crockpot Candy

What You Need

2 pounds chopped white almond bark
½ cup chopped German chocolate
1 package chocolate chips 12 ounce
3 cups dry roasted peanuts

How to Make It

Prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper, wax paper, or aluminum foil. Set aside until needed.

Add the chopped white almond bark, chopped German chocolate, chocolate chips, and the dry roasted peanuts to the crockpot and stir well to combine. Place the crockpot on the highest setting and then cook for about an hour. Do not stir.

Reduce heat to low and then stir every 15 minutes for about an hour.

Spoon this mixture into small bite sized mounds onto the prepared baking sheet. Allow to cool to the touch before removing and then store in decorative tins to give as gift ideas or for storing and serving.

Ah yes, there is nothing more satisfying than coming home from work to find a chicken crockpot recipe slowly cooking away. How to make it:

Add the tomato paste, coconut milk, salt, pepper, ginger, and garlic to a crockpot, and then stir in the bell peppers, onion, and potatoes. Mix until well combined. Rub the curry powder over the chicken and arrange it on top of the vegetables in the crockpot.

Cover and cook for four to five hours on high or six to eight hours on low, or until the vegetables are tender and the chicken is cooked through. Sprinkled the chopped cilantro over before serving.

A Very Easy Slow Cooked Curry Recipes

There are only eight ingredients in the following recipe. Chicken is teamed with potatoes, onion, and orange juice and the seasoning consists of garlic, curry powder, salt and pepper. Do not be fooled by the few ingredients and ease of preparation because this is a really nice recipe.

What you will need:


4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
3 teaspoons curry powder
1 quartered onion
1 minced clove garlic
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup orange juice
2 peeled, chopped sweet potatoes

How to make it:

Cut the chicken breasts in half, crosswise, so they are like cutlets; it is easier to do this when they are a bit frozen. Then slice them into strips and arrange them in the bottom of the crockpot. Add the onion and sweet potatoes.

Combine the remaining ingredients and pour the mixture over the chicken. Cook for five to six hours on low. Make some rice half an hour before the end of the cooking time. If you want to make coconut rice, you can replace half the rice-cooking water with coconut milk.

2 (10 oz.) boxes of frozen chopped broccoli
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1/4 cup sour cream
1 lb. regular Velveeta cheese
1 tbsp. garlic salt

Melt cheese in slow cooker on low setting for about an hour and a half to two hours. Cook and drain broccoli. Mix soups, sour cream, broccoli and garlic salt. Mix into melted cheese. Great with crackers or pita chips.

Barbecue in Your Crockpot - Easy Shredded Barbecue Pork Recipe

Save money on dinner tonight by using your crockpot to make your own shredded barbecued pork. This recipe, along with my special homemade barbecue sauce, is not only delicious but easy to prepare.

Slow cookers are great for budgeting both time and money. Cooking in a crockpot will tenderize less expensive cuts of meat and energy use is low too because a crockpot takes less energy to create a tasty meal than baking it in your oven.

With a little planning ahead, crockpots can save you lots of time in answering that age-old question ; "What's for dinner?"

How to Make Shredded Barbecue Pork

Start with a four pound pork roast. Place it in your crockpot with a sliced onion and enough water to fill 2/3 of the slow cooker. Season with salt and pepper, Cover and cook pork on low for 8 to 10 hours.

While the pork roast is cooking, prepare this homemade barbecue sauce, a favorite recipe of my grandmother's.

Ingredients for Barbecue Sauce

2 tsp margarine
1 medium onion chopped
1 Tbs Worcheshire sauce
2 Tbs vinegar
4 Tbs brown sugar
4 Tbs lemon juice
1 tsp dry mustard
1 c catsup

Melt margarine or butter over low heat. Add other ingredients and blend.

Once you've made your barbecue sauce, refrigerate until the meat is done.

When your pork roast is finished cooking, take it out of the slow cooker and throw away the water and onions.

Let the pork cook and then, using a fork, pull the meat apart. Once you've shredded all the meat, return it to the crockpot. Add the homemade barbecue sauce and mix thoroughly with the shredded pork.

Cook on medium for 1-3 hours, or until the onions are soft.

Serve the shredded barbecued pork on a large, whole wheat bun with baked beans and a salad for a complete dinner idea.

How To Make Goulash In A Crockpot

Traditional goulash is made with beef, vegetables including onions, paprika, tomato, and spices. The name comes from the Hungarian word for herdsman or cattle stockman. This Hungarian dish is made either as a stew or soup.

You can use hot or mild paprika and a little caraway seed, garlic or wine is also nice in the recipe. In the traditional goulash recipe, onions are fried until they are golden and then the paprika and meat are added, so the flavor of the paprika comes out when it touches the hot fat but it does not get bitter or burn.

You can make this dish using pork, lamb, or veal if you do not want to use beef. The meat is cut into chunks before you use it. Stock or water is also added and then caraway seeds or garlic can go in after it has been simmering for a while.

Parsnip, carrot, bell pepper, fresh tomato, or celery are optional ingredients, as are thyme, bay leaves, and hot chilies. You might like to add some diced potatoes to make the dish more starchy and therefore smoother and thicker. A little wine vinegar or white wine can also go into it, to round out the flavor.

International Variations

Many countries have a similar dish to this one, since it is quite a basic beef stew. For example, in Austria, the dish is served without tomatoes but with extra onions as well as little dumplings. In Germany, potatoes are added and the broth is tomato-flavored.

Lamb, beef, pork, or occasionally fish might feature in the Dutch version and many people prefer to use ground beef to make this recipe in the United States, Canada, and Australia. It is served with macaroni, noodles, or pasta. In some parts of New England, this ground beef and tomato sauce-based dish is known as "American chop suey" or "American goulash."

1 1/2 lbs round steak or beef stew meat, in 1 inch cubes
2 tablespoons sweet paprika
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon salt

2 minced cloves garlic
1/4 cup sour cream
1 cup water
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 cup chopped onion

How To Make It:

Put the beef, garlic, and onion in the crockpot and sprinkle the salt and pepper over the mixture. Mix half the water with the paprika and tomato paste and pour this over the top. Cover and cook for eight or nine hours on low. Mix the rest of the water with the sour cream and flour and stir this into the goulash. Cook for fifteen minutes uncovered or until it is thick.

Delicious Slow Cooker and Crockpot Recipes: Steak With Vegetable Gravy or Veggie Chowder

Whether you are a very busy cook who needs to use your crockpot or slowcooker to save time or you just enjoy knowing you can have your meal ready in minutes when you are ready to eat, these crockpot or slowcooker recipes are sure to become family favorites. The Round Steak with Vegetable Gravy is almost a meal by itself. Add a salad and crusty bread, if desired, and you are ready to feel your family a nutritious and hearty meal. The Veggie Chowder is perfect for those who prefer vegetables without meat. If you are a strict vegetarian and don't want to use the chicken and beef bouillon, you can substitute an equal quantity of vegetable broth.

ROUND STEAK WITH VEGETABLE GRAVY

3/4 cup finely chopped carrot
3/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1 (2 lb) round steak about 3/4-inch thick
salt and pepper
1/3 cup water
1/2 cup catsup
1 tbsp cider vinegar
1/2 cup cold water
2 tbsp all-purpose flour

In crockpot or slowcooker put the carrot, onion, celery and bell pepper. Trim excess fat from the round steak and cut it into 6 equal-sized pieces. Place the meat atop the vegetables. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Combine the catsup with the 1/3 cup of water and vinegar; pour mixture over the steak. Place lid on the pot and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours.

Remove the meat from the cooker. Skim the excess fat from the cooking liquid then pour the vegetable/liquid mixture into a saucepan. Return the meat to the cooking pot.

Slowly pour the cold water into the flour blending well; stir into the vegetable mixture. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Place the meat on a serving platter. Spoon some of the gravy over the meat. Pass the remaining gravy, if others want more. Serves 6 to 8 people.

VEGGIE CHOWDER

1 can stewed tomatoes, chopped, undrained
3 stalks celery, diced
2 medium potatoes, diced
2 carrots, sliced
2 medium onions
1 can green beans, drained
1 can corn, drained
1 can peas
2 beef bouillon cubes
2 chicken bouillon cubes
3 cups water

Put all of the vegetables into the crockpot or slowcooker. Combine the bouillon cubes with the water until dissolved; pour over the vegetables in the pot. Place lid on the cooker and cook on low for 12 or more hours.

Since the slow cooker is generally considered to be a tool for making beef casserole, chicken stew and not much else, it might surprise you to know that you can make really tasty vegetarian meals in there too. If you have bought a crockpot recently, you probably have one of the newer models. A lot of these have a saute feature, which means you can saute meat or vegetables in the crockpot itself.

This is obviously preferable to sauteing on the stove, then having to transfer the sauteed ingredient, plus everything else, to the crockpot. A crockpot is a great investment because you can cook everything from beef stew to French onion soup in it.

Converting Stove Top Recipes to Crockpot Recipes

A lot of people wonder how to make their favorite stovetop recipes in the crockpot. A low crockpot heat is about 200 degrees F and a high crockpot heat is about 300 degrees F. Fifteen minutes on the stove equals about an hour and a half in the crockpot on a high heat or four hours in the crockpot on a low heat.

Thirty minutes on the stove is about three hours in a crockpot on a high heat or six hours in a crockpot on a low heat. An hour on the stove is about four hours in the crockpot on a high heat or eight hours in a crockpot on a high heat.

These figures are approximate. It depends very much what you are cooking. You should also only use half as much liquid when converting a stovetop recipe to a crockpot recipe because water cannot evaporate from a crockpot like it does from a pot on the stove. The exception to this rule is when you are cooking pasta, beans or rice, because these soak up lots of water, whichever cooking method you use.

How to Make Crockpot French Asparagus Soup

Asparagus has a unique flavor and the following recipe combines it with onions, potatoes, chicken broth, and seasoning, for a healthy and delicious crockpot soup recipe. You will have enough French asparagus soup to feed four people and it is nice served with warm bread for dunking.

What you will need:


2 pounds fresh asparagus
2 big potatoes
5 cups chicken broth
6 green onions
A pinch each of salt and black pepper
Sour cream and chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

How to make it:

Snap or cut the ends off the asparagus, then cut the spears into one-inch lengths. Finely chop the green onions. Peel the potatoes and cut them into half-inch cubes.

Put the broth, potatoes, asparagus and green onions into a crockpot, cover it and cook for about six hours on low, or until the potatoes are tender.

Puree the vegetables using a hand blender or transfer them to a blender or food processor with some of the liquid, then put the puree back in the crockpot.

Stir in some salt and pepper, put the lid back on, and cook on high for about thirty minutes. Serve the French asparagus soup garnished with a swirl of sour cream and some fresh parsley. Bon appetit!

What you will need:


1 beef shank or beef soup bone, with meat on
1 bay leaf
2 1/2 lbs rump roast
3 quartered turnips
1 teaspoon thyme
2 sprigs parsley
2 onions with 2 cloves stuck in each
White part from 3 leeks
3 1/2 lbs chopped chicken
6 halved carrots
3 quarts water
Giblets from chicken
3 halved celery ribs
Salt and black pepper, to taste
How to make it:

Add all the ingredients to your slow cooker and cook it for eight to ten hours on "low." Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Put the chicken, beef, and giblets on a platter and spoon the vegetables around the outside. Keep this warm in the oven.

Strain the broth and skim off the fat. Serve the broth as an appetizer and the meat and vegetables as an entree. Before you serve the entree, slice the chicken and meat and serve horseradish and pickles on the side, as well as French bread and butter.

3 Delicious Breakfast Crockpot Recipes

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and yet many people still don't take the time to eat in the morning. Finding tasty recipes for healthy breakfasts can help to ensure that the morning is off to nutritious start. With a small amount of prep work the night before, these three recipes for crock pot breakfasts will ensure a delicious start to any morning.

Slow Cooked Oatmeal

The possibilities for this hearty breakfast cereal can help you satisfy every taste. Start with the basic recipe, and add any of the add-ins to create your own delectable hot breakfast cereal.

Basic Recipe:

2 cups old fashioned oats

6 cups water

To this basic recipe, you can add any of the following add-ins, to your own specific tastes.

Add-ins: cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, nuts, dried fruits, coconut, maple syrup, brown sugar, ginger, cocoa, flavored protein powders, honey, or applesauce.

Place the oatmeal, water and add-ins in a lightly greased slow cooker, and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours. Once your oatmeal is finished cooking, you can add any milk, yogurt, fresh fruit, jam, jelly or other topping of your choice.

Crock Pot Breakfast Casserole

For busy mornings, nothing beats an all-in-one breakfast casserole that can be put together in no time flat the night before.

1 (32oz) bag frozen hash browns

1 pound of bacon, sausage or ham (cooked and diced)

1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, jack, swiss) of choice

1 cup veggies (onion, pepper, mushroom, etc) of choice

1 dozen eggs

1 cup milk

Place hash browns on bottom of lightly greased crock pot. Place meat, vegetables, and cheese over top of hash browns. Whisk the eggs with the milk and pour over the rest of the ingredients. Cook on LOW for 10 to 12 hours, until eggs are set in center.

Slow Cooked Breakfast Risotto (Rice Pudding)

As with oatmeal, the list of things you can add to rice pudding is practically endless. Start with the basic recipe and experiment to find your favorite!

1/4 cup butter, melted

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp cloves

1/8 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp salt

1 1/2 cups arborio rice

1/3 cup brown sugar

4 cups milk ( or you may add 1 cup of fruit juice and 3 cups milk)

1 to 1 1/2 cups fruit of choice, dried or fresh

Mix all ingredients in lightly greased crock pot. Cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours.

By taking a short time to prepare your slow cooker breakfast the night before, you can wake up to a delicious morning meal any day of the week. Enjoy!
