Whole Chicken Crockpot Recipes

Consider a whole chicken; are you going to divide it into sections breasts, legs, wings and remaining meat and cook individually, or are you going to cook as a whole, and get the best value for money from the bird? With any of the many whole chicken crockpot recipes that are popular and very simple to follow you can make a stunning meal out of a whole chicken, and it really is the best value for money as it cooks all the bird. The beauty of the crockpot method is in the fact it cooks slowly, and this allows for much scope and inventiveness in the resulting dish.

Any standard recipe will recommend you baste the chicken in a simple coating some balsamic vinegar, perhaps, a few herbs and spices thrown in and this is where the scope for trial and error comes into play. You can choose at this point whether you want to cook your chicken in its natural state, or whether you wish to create a beautiful spicy, or sweet and sour, marinade sauce and apply it to the bird before cooking, allowing the flavors to seep through and add to the tenderness of the beautiful juicy meat.

Of course, the flavors you decide to introduce at this point are very much up to you, but there are a couple that come highly recommended. One is lemon, and a full skinned lemon inside the chicken can make a wonderful addition of flavor as the bird cooks, its juices seeping into the skin and making the bird more oriental in its taste. The second recommended flavor is garlic, the perfect adornment for any whole chicken crockpot recipes, and one that while not to everyone's taste is just about the most complementary you will find.

That's the beauty of the dish you can do what you want with it. The advantage of cooking the chicken whole is in the way you treat it, as well as the beautiful manner in which you can serve it whole at the table and carve with panache and skill that, however, is something that comes only with experience!
