Healthy Vegetarian Crockpot Lasagna

Lasagna is many people's favorite Italian recipe. There are various kinds of lasagna, so whether you enjoy a classic beef lasagna, a salmon, and ricotta one or even a vegetarian lasagna, there is a recipe for you.

The main ingredient in this dish is noodles, which are several inches in diameter and rectangular; you layer these with your chosen filling in between them. This recipe is served hot, cut into squares or rectangles, and you might like to serve some parmesan cheese on the side, to sprinkle over the top.

Not only can you choose from lots of different varieties of this dish but you can also choose your preferred cooking method. This Italian recipe does not have to be baked. You can make it in your slow cooker if you want to and it comes out really nice.

Crockpot lasagna is just as good as the oven-baked kind, perhaps even better because the flavors have plenty of time to blend perfectly. The following recipe, which serves six people, is vegan, vegetarian and low calorie as well as low fat since tofu is used instead of cheese.

What You Need:

1 package silken tofu
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 box lasagna noodles
4 cups tomato sauce
20 oz frozen spinach
1/4 cup soy milk
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1 package firm tofu
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

How To Make It:

Thaw the spinach and pat it dry. Add both types of tofu to a blender or food processor, as well as the salt, basil, garlic powder, lemon juice and soy milk and process the mixture until it is smooth. Stir in the spinach.

Add a cup of tomato sauce to the slow cooker, and then add a third of the noodles and then a third of the tofu mixture. Repeat these layers a couple of times, finishing with tomato sauce. Cook for six to eight hours on low or until the noodles are soft.

What To Serve With Lasagna

Technically this is a meal in itself and in Italy, where this dish is from, it is served alone or perhaps with a basic green salad. A couple of types of lettuce leaves and perhaps some sliced tomato or cherry tomatoes is nice, then you can have a vinaigrette dressing on top or maybe some lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. Keep the salad simple so the main focus is on the tasty entree itself.

In the United States, the United Kingdom and some other countries, this meal is commonly served with garlic bread or fries on the side, which makes it really filling but if you do not want to eat that many carbohydrates forget the fries and bread and opt for the salad instead. The pasta used in this recipe makes it satisfying enough on its own and the vegetables and herbs give plenty of nutrition.

Lasagna has to be one of the best crockpot recipes because the pasta comes out tender and the filling ingredients blend well. The overall flavor really is amazing. There are also lots of classic dishes you can make, such as crockpot beef stew.

Vegetarian Slow Cooker Recipes - Crock Pot Ratatouille

The slow cooker is a very useful appliance, easy and convenient to use. Most meals cooked in the slow cooker are healthy and easy to prepare. You can prepare the meal early in the morning. You could also prepare it the night before and leave the dish in the refrigerator. In the morning just take the dish out of the refrigerator and place it in the main unit. Choose your temperature setting between low and high, and forget about it. Your supper will be ready by supper time. You do not need to check it continuously Every time you open the cooker lid, you prolong the cooking time by 25 minutes.

Once you finish supper, then the cleaning is very easy, specially if you have a unit with a removable dish. Do not ever submerge the heating unit. As you can see cooking in the crock pot is so easy that even your husband could do it.
I have found an easy and delicious vegetarian recipe here:

- 2 medium eggplants, peeled and chopped
- 2 green peppers, seeded and chopped
- 6 plum size tomatoes chopped
- 2 large zucchini sliced
- 2 small onion chopped
- 3 cloves pressed garlic
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flake
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 6-oz can tomato paste
- salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients, except tomato paste, in slow cooker. Pour the tomato paste on top and cover. Cooking time: 3-4 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low. You can serve it on brown rice or pasta rice.
Enjoy it!

When I did not have any children, cooking was not my priority, so I just got home from work and decided on what to eat for supper. Since having children, my days got shorter, and I am always looking for ways to simplify the cooking duties. I now enjoy cooking. My cooking time has been reduced and I can use my time more productively. Read more [http://www.squidoo.com/vegetarianslowcookerrecipes] to learn how I did it.

Vegetarian Crock Pot Recipes - One Dish Meals

The slow cooker is ideal for vegetarian meals. Most vegetables benefit from the slower cooking process, especially pulses, grains, and beans making it the perfect tool to use for your vegetarian crock pot recipes. Slow-cooking is an easy, convenient way to have the scrumptious flavors and aromas of home cooked stews, soups, and other favorites. Just use your favorite vegetarian recipe and let your meal slowly cook throughout the day and then come home to the irresistible aroma of your supper cooked and ready to be served.

Crock pot cooking, also called a slow cooker, can give you varied and delicious meals without a lot of hassle. By just using a good vegetarian recipe book and whatever ingredients you have handy, you can just throw everything into the pot and let it simmer away.

First time cooks might find using a slow cooker a little easier than conventional ovens. The temperature in a cooker is low enough to avoid badly overcooking food even if cooked for far longer than necessary. Cooking the meal in a single pot reduces washing up, and the low cooking temperature and glazed pot make cleaning it very easy, which we all appreciate. Ovens and stove tops are more dangerous than your slow cookers, because of the lower temperatures used for cooking and there secure, closed lids.

So if you have a slow cooker on the shelf collecting dust, then its time to take it down, dust it off, and find yourself a good vegetarian crock pot recipe. You will start to enjoy all the leisure time you can have when your not tied to your range.

To make the most of your crock pot you should have a few good vegetarian crock pot recipes and plenty of veggies and flavorings on hand.
